So you have more conviction about life than the reporter did is what your saying? Based on what? Your family? Your career? Your faith? Because I'm sure the reporter didn't give a crap about any of those either.

For someone who served, you are an ugly representation of the Army.

I don't give enough of a shite about what is going on over there to have people beheaded. But reporters have to report I guess.

That region is a boil on the arse of the globe. Do not allow it to spread and wait for it to pop.

If the reporter didn't do what they said he might have been skinned alive or worse.

Just read an article on USA Today that said the executioner may be a British national. Yikes.

LINK

quote:

LONDON — The apparent beheading of American journalist James Foley by an Islamic State militant may have been undertaken by a British national, the United Kingdom's Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond conceded Wednesday.

In an interview with the BBC, Hammond acknowledged that the militant shown in the unverified video with Foley — seized in Syria in 2012 — spoke with a British accent and that it's possible the perpetrator of the shocking killing, if confirmed, could be a Briton, he said. He said the video appeared to be genuine.

Why is it OK for you to make assumptions about what he would do, but he can't?

I stated he would have no idea what he'd do given he was put in the reporter's position and I stand by it; which is more logical than saying he'd tell them to suck camel balls. My gripe isn't with his assumption, my gripe is him downplaying the reporter's conviction.

But hey if you believe Darth would go all movie star Rambo than that's fine. I live in reality and odds are most people would have no choice to go out like the reporter did unless they were already killed trying to escape.

ETA: Maybe Darth is a SERE specialist which is why he is so confident.

You did a little more than that. You basically said he is a horrible representation of military service men.

Since you don't know the man at all, who the frick are you to say that? Is it so far of a stretch to think someone that served might have more conviction than a reporter?

He may have hoped that they would spare him if he read the propaganda, first.

The fact that I don't know the reporter other than him being capture and based on Darth's e-persona I can say with confidence that I don't know who has/had more conviction. Based on the odds, he wouldn't know what he'd do in the situation and he'd likely do the same barring being killed trying to escape. By all means keep defending Rambo though.

I stand by that.

Then shut up. You have less info than Darth.

You have zero evidence to say he'd likely do anything. Shut up.

And I stand by you being an uninformed idiot jumping onto the OT hate Darth bandwagon.

Why would you read it that way if you're going to die anyway?

I personally would rather die than have my family thinking I blamed them for my death. I hope I'd be strong enough to go through with it.

These badasses have no idea what they can do you in 2 years of captivity. They research your family and can tell you they have hit men waiting to kill your whole family if you don't do exactly as they say. God help anyone in that situation. Special ops and some other types of military personnel are trained to deal with it, civies haven't a clue.

That was probably the 10th time he had to read that.

Read the rest of the thread. He's been held captive for 2 years. How do we know that he wasn't told to read that and his life might be spared? Or that the life of the other journalist might be spared?

We simply don't know.
