then recommend you come back for deep cleaning. The thought of that just scares me

I had that done a few years ago, the term my dentist used was "planing and scaling". It was probably as close to medieval torture as I can imagine. It was my fault, years of neglect led to it being required, but it damn sure has me taking care of my teeth better now.

Not necessarily a scam but they're trying to get paid twice. It's like going into a doctor's office and once they find out you have good insurance, they order every frickin' test on the planet.

<<---------------works for a dental insurance co.

The above is not accurate. It's impossible to get paid twice on the same service. It it wasn't impoosible, dentists would do it every day all day and be even more rich than they are now all the while complaining about insurance companies.

MY dentist charges not by the visit but the services performed.. First visit I paid for xrays and consult with Dentist to discussion treatment of a problem.. Second visit was cleaning then fixing the cavity..

Subsequent visits have been..schedule the cleaning every six months with xrays once a year.. He checks over after the cleaning visits. No charges from him to look in my mouth and poke around after cleaning.

No cavities here (I hope), but my dentist died so I'm looking for a new one in Baton Rouge too.

They probably run a tight schedule. Everybody says they were cleaned 6 months ago but often it's more like 6 years.

Your dentist in NO knew your mouth so he could do it that way.

Just get back with us if they say you need 4 quadrants of scaling and root planing

Not BR but Zachary

Common problem with Dentists/Insurance.

Your company's insurance will pay for one visit 100% and when you go for an exam/cleaning they tell you they'll do the exam and cleaning on separate visits.

They get your company to pay for one and you to pay partial for the second.

And yes, I'm an anti-dentite.

This sounds routine to me. The cleaning will take more time and be more expensive depending on the condition of your teeth.

This dentist took no less than 50 x-rays then did bite tests, joint test, all kind of bullshite. I never went back.

TBH it sounds like he was a good dentist.

One of the best explanations out of this disaster of a thread. No wonder people hate going to the dentist. People who have no clue what they're talking make assumptions that they deem as facts.

Whole lotta dumb arse in this thread.

Would you schedule a new patient visit with a physician and expect to get a colonoscopy the same day? Would you even need one? If you could see the tremendous range of nasty that is in "normal" looking people's mouths then you would understand that a cleaning is not just a cleaning. The only way we know the proper course of treatment is to gather the appropriate information and diagnose the condition. Only at that time can the proper amount of time for the procedure be appointed.
And no, you or your insurance is not charged per visit.
