If you like a little bit of little-known history, go visit the Lousiana Orphan Train Museum in Vieux Village. Then go eat at Mama's Fried Chicken on St Landry St.

You don't like Evangeline? I will be honest, I rather go there than to the Fairgrounds in New Orleans. It just seems like a more relaxed atmosphere I guess, but it's not bad.
There is also a strip club close to it, the OP might want to check it out.

Opelousas isn't the greatest but it certainly isn't the dump that some of ya'll are making it out to be

Have you been in the last 20 yrs? The entire town is a rundown ghetto and seems to get worse every time I have to pass through.
