Probably in Alaska. I imagine all the homeless people freeze to death in the snow. And it's not like you can just hitchike or walk from the Canadian border to Alaska.

Bums are in every big time city. The question is how aggressive they are when they approach you. For example in Nola you'll always get the "I know where you got your shoes from hustle" and will be followed for a block or two. In Portland Oregon, the heroin junkies just sit on the corner and ask for change, and ignoring them won't result in harassment.

Used to work with a guy from New Hampshire. He said that was the best part about harsh winters. Kept all the smelly bums away.

That's crazy, if you think about it. I mean, where do you go? Where do you live? I imagine they would freeze to the death in the winter, so how do they get to warmer climates to escape the harsh winter?

I noticed the most in San Diego and down here in south Florida over the last decade. Have to imagine the better the climate the more likely you are to have them.

Well they make a decent amount panhandling. I think after a few months they could get a greyhound ticket.

Nope. I saw homeless people there too. It was one of the cleanest cities I have ever been to though.

SD is probably the worst in CA, if not the whole country.

The village of Eagle has homeless people. Eagle is on the Yukon River in the middle of nowhere. You have to get there by plane. Think about that.

As for Anchorage, you're right, it's a shithole. I read the Anchorage paper online, and rarely does a day go by without some act of violence that often ends in death. The worst thing about Alaska is the Alaskans themselves, and it's not only limited to Anchorage. You've got thugs in the cities, and meth freaks and other assorted misfits in the rural areas. Marginal people tend to wash up at the edge of civilization, I guess.

They buy a ticket like anyone else. Plane or bus, depending on how good at being a bum they are.
