The P51D, with bare metal and invasion stripes is the most beautiful aircraft ever produced. It looks fast even when parked on a runway. The Brit will scream "Spitfire!" until they are hoarse, and it IS a gorgeous plane, but the Mustang is in a class by itself.

Sorry, I can't figure out how to hang pictures on here anymore, but the best air-to-air fighter ever designed was the F-16.
The F-16 was sleeked down and built strictly with air-to-air combat in mind. No aircraft could turn faster than the F-16, meaning the F-16 would quickly outmaneuver any other type of aircraft it went against.
The same people who helped design the F-16 helped build the A-10. Same concept (focus on doing one thing well), just took it to the other extreme of close air support.

TU-95 is a fierce looking beast. I've seen them flying and they'll freak you out coming in.

If you were around when the Boeing 747 project started, you would know.... Designed and flying in 2 years. Unheard of in todays time even with mega computers.

Like beautiful women, there aren't really any wrong answers. My personal favorite was the F4U Corsair, but the F-14 Tomcat was a sweet flying machine too.

The Spitfire really is a good looking fighter
Maybe one of the sexiest designs ever, but you’re right. P-51 was THE goat.
