That's very shortsighted.

New and better opportunities often come along unannounced and quickly.
You do what's best for you and your family. Not your former employer.

I've been hosed lately, so I have personal experience. It'll never happen again if I can help it.

As far as training goes, every job is different.
I've never had an office position where as I was "trained" in a week or two.... I could see where that could leave people in a bind.
I've always had territory postions where as training was on going and 2 weeks means nothing.

Sounds strategic to me. Everyone knows you're leaving and your completely checked out anyway what are you going to do bring your vaca time to your new job?

Should i have the same attitude when a better potential employee comes along looking for a job? kick the current employee to the curb and leave them in a bind?

So have I.

The boss has a family to look after too.Getting screwed by outgoing employees isnt best for him. you seem to be buying into the stereotype that all bosses are greedy rich guys, who climbed to the top on the back of poor people's labor. In small businesses, at least, its usually quite the opposite. Im the last one to get paid and take less vacation than any of the employees.

Exactly. We may be comparing apples to oranges. My business has 6 employees. When one quits, and another one has to train a new person, we're down to 2/3 of the workforce.
The way to quit is to give 2 weeks, do your best to tie up any loose ends, dont be a slacker, try to train the replacement, and then take whatever paid vacation is owed on the way out. Everyone understands better opportunities are out there and there's no resentment when its done the right way. Ive had several people come back to work for me after doing it this way. And several who wanted to but werent allowed back after quitting the wrong way. No reason to burn bridges if the place has been fair to you.

Not at all. They would do the same to you in other ways if possible. If you already have another job, go for it.

I'd take every single one of them since they aren't paying you for them.
