Typically a larger company won't let you use them...Do you have sick days included?

I do get paid out for vacation time earned, the 5 days I have are 3 floating holidays and 2 "flex" days that I don't get paid out for.

So you lied in your subject line and OP.

You don't have vacation days.

Why?

Would it be in bad taste to use any of them.

Not bad taste, but if they're not going to pay you for the vacation, then I assume that they would just tell you not to come in anymore if you tried to use the vacation.

1) How long have you been with the company?
2) Are there any projects/assignments outstanding that you are best suited to complete?
3) Any chance you would need a reference from said company in the future?

Well they are all the same here at least with my boss. I've been allowed to use flex days/vacation days however I have wanted in the past. Flex days are basically our sick days, need no reason to use them, they are intended for sick days and doctor visits and such

Hence why in the OP I referred to them all as vacation

I'll probably just use some flex hours tomorrow to get my drug test for my new job and maybe some hours next week to load up my moving truck

1: 21 months

2: I'm on top of everything

3: I used my team members not my superiors as my references to get hired for my new job

I left a company after 15 years in November and lost 146 hours...I will say that at the time all projects were complete and basically "worked from home" the last two weeks not doing shite...

Do your time...you could be a boss someday and expect the same

They are not the same, otherwise they would all be called the same thing. They are called something different for reasons like this. Vacation days have to be paid out and for a lot of companies they are rolled over to the next year. Flex days are an opportunity to give additional time off without having to include it as a part of your compensation package.

Go to your current boss and tell them that you either want to get paid for the vacation days in addition to your remaining pay, or you'll take the vacation days. Either way you win

No. If you've earned the days take them. Don't leave time off on the table.

Yes..I wouldn't do it. Defeats the purpose of a two weeks notice if you aren't going to be there anyway. I also would not give a positive review of someone if ever used as a reference.

Depends on where you work. In most places it is still a matter of employer policy as to whether you are entitled to pay out of unused vacation at termination.

quote:

Louisiana is one of about a dozen states that always requires employers to pay workers for earned, unused vacation time at termination. Termination includes being fired, laid off or quitting. This is state law, so even if a company with employees in several states has a policy of not paying vacation, they must make an exception for Louisiana workers.

According to the Louisiana Workforce Commission, Louisiana employees who are laid off, fired, or who quit must be paid their wages in full at the next regular payday, not to exceed 15 days from the date of their discharge or termination. Wages include vacation time earned by the employee. Like other states, Louisiana permits the employer to designate how much of the total PTO is vacation time, and how much is comparable to sick leave or personal time. This designation should be made in writing, preferably in the employee handbook. The designation must be reasonable. If an employee receives 20 days of PTO, the employer cannot designate 19 days as sick leave and 1 day as vacation time. It would be reasonable to designate 10 days as vacation and 10 days as sick leave. The designation also needs to be the same for all employees.

There are ways around it, such as labeling the days as something other than vacation. But it definitely is not a "depends where you work" type of thing nor is it up to the employer.
