Or does it defeat the purpose of working out? Or....am I just a fatty who likes beer too much?

Imagine how much worse shape you'd be in if you didn't exercise before

if you are fat and trying to lose weight, then yes

if you are content to where you are and just trying to maintain, I'd say you are fine, depending on how hard you actually work out and the rest of your diet

Last year i went from 227 to 195 and lost almost 4 in in my waist and i drank beer almost every day. I'm 6'1" for reference. I trained 3 days a week with a personal trainer and watched my diet (well besides the beer).

Depends on what your purpose for working out is.

Of course. Last time I checked, this is still America.

How else do you refuel the body?

Hell yes, a nice cold heavy dark beer is actually a good recovery drink

It's the reason I run. Not just beer though....any food. Burn a crappie ton of calories, then eat drink what you want.

Last year I went from about 190 to 165 and never once watched what I ate. I recently weighed in at 174 (injured foot and couldn't run). I have no plans to cut back on drinking or eating, just ramping back up the mileage.

The ability to drink beer and not be a fatty is pretty much the reason I work out in the first place.
