Don't forget the keys to the Humvee and to go ask Gunny if he has an extra PRC-E7 laying around.

I wouldn't call it hazing. But if a mother fricker is getting us beat as a squad, platoon, etc. every day, he's going to get woken up in the middle of the night to learn a valuable lesson that may involve some type of physical harm.

That is the definition of hazing. I'm not saying I have a problem with it, but call it what it is......

haha I did to a new private about a month ago. had her go all over the place looking for them.

she asked our readiness NCO, who knew the game sent her to our sister unit to ask their readiness nco , he sent her to the motor SGT, who then sent her to the 1st sgt, who sent her the SGT Maj, and finally was sent back to our unit before someone finally busted out laughing and let the cat out the bag.

it was classic.

ESWS was a big deal for an E-4,5 on a cruise

Getting SNs to watch for the mail buoy, or take the RHIB out to recover air slugs that we shot from the torpedo tubes

I once had a neighbor who was Coast Guard. Somehow or another, we got onto the topic of hazing. He was a funny guy and told this hysterical story about "calibrating the radar" while dockside. I can't do it justice, but the basic gist was that they'd get a gullible newbie and wrap him with aluminum foil, including flags or paddles at the end of each arm. They'd put him on the pier and walk him back and forth, raising and lowering his arms as per instructions broadcast over the cutter's loud hailer. Needless to say, commands of "Back 50 paces!", "Both arms up... Now horizontal!", "Forward 25 paces!", etc would attract a crowd and the gag would continue until all productivity came to a halt and someone would finally put an end to it. The punchline was a noob who refused to "get back to work", because he WAS working - he was helping calibrate the radar!

My neighbor had about 30 people at a crawfish boil listening to his story for about ten minutes, all laughing their asses off the entire time. That was about 20 years ago, and I'm amused just thinking about it again!

In the military, there's accountability up the chain of command. It doesn't always work that way, but that's the idea. If some 20 year old goes over the line harassing the new guy, a SNCO's there to jerk him back. Some 20 year old sophomore in a frat, not so much.

It's not hazing, it's corrective action with a purpose. I've always thought hazing was stupid stuff you do to people to initiate them into a group. Corrective action is what you do when an idiot won't get his crap together and ends up constantly getting the squad or platoon in trouble.
