no one is hazed. We in the military educate and motivate those weaker individuals to become better soldiers.

we don't duck tape the private to the DFAC door and throw food at him or anything

I remember reading in the Adam Brown book about the SEALs punching each other's tridents in their chests the night they got them. Sounded intense

If you've never done it I wouldn't expect you to understand it. Earning my submarine warfare insignia was one of the greatest accomplishments of my life. It's something I'll always be proud of.

You can see I have dolphins in my sig image and so does Choctaw. No matter which military branch, earning a warfare pin is an honor and it makes you part of a brotherhood for life. Some of the ceremonies may seem antiquated or barbaric by today's standards but they stem from tradition.

In the Air Force there's shite that young troops who work the flight line have to do, but it's not too serious.

That was the perfect answer.

no need to explain, people who have never experienced those things have no understanding of the hardships we sometimes go through

and I'm not bashing or anything, actually im sure looking from the outside in it does look a little silly but it carries great meaning to us

I guess it would.

The funny thing is... the guys who gave me the most shite when I was new were the ones that helped me the most. They would beat you down and put you through hell... but after it's all done you realize they were only trying to make you better.

You have to weed out the weak b/c those are the people you don't want around if shite hits the fan.

What most civilians don't understand is that the majority of people receiving a warfare pin feel it's an honor to have them beaten into your chest. That whole standing there going through what all your brothers before you have done...

very well put!

this was my Recon team giving Honor to a fellow Marine getting his new acquired gold jump wings!

the last time I was promoted my wife and kids were there and of course after wards everyone my rank or higher came by and punched me in the chest.

my oldest kept saying don't hit my daddy, and I had to tell her baby this is one time they can hit me and get away with it

I liked to call it "calibration". As in "I'm about to calibrate the frick out of this NUB with a fricking crescent wrench".

Initiation or not, if you try to physically harm someone with a crescent wrench for fun, then you should expect to have your frickin jaw wired shut for 6 weeks.

Remedial Military Training is not hazing

You guy put on your face for being a frick up and still get paid.

Far from hazing if you ask me

Getting your stripes tacked on is not hazing either

I was thinking the more selective/elite/special forces(?) would have something similar to an initiation ritual.

No - probably almost never happens. Those guys are very professional, and after their (very long) training programs, they're treated as adults.

It's more referred to as "corrective action"

No one is hazed, but you will embrace the suck by completing pointless tasks over and over to get your mind right haha

Haha it's never a question of "why" you're getting smoked, more of a "when" and "how"
