That's a good job for someone with no skills etc.

They could do Uber or something on the side too. Especially, since they'd have a set schedule. Easy to pick up job at a bar/restaurant etc.

They are dumb AF for scoffing at that job.

Two things either the 15/ hr guy goes up or go out of business. The cost of labor has gone up. That's the market.

Benefits offered on Day 1 are 3 weeks PTO a year(it accrues from Day 1), Health insurance(medical/dental/vision), 401k with 6% company match, $300 fitness reimbursement annually, stock purchase option at 15% discount and at lowest price of the year, annual bonuses, big employee purchase discounts on cars(we have fleet purchasing prices with Chevy, Toyota, and Ford), HP computers, cell phone plans with At&T, etc etc

My company offers all of this, but the ESPP period is every 6 months, RSU’s for everyone in the company, and 225 a quarter wellness reimbursement, and starting pay of 19/hr in STL and 22/hr in Atlanta and Scottsdale. Difference is, this is a call center position, work from home, company provides all equipment.

Your company is going to need to pay more.

I love that this thread is on the same page as one about A/C replacement cost.

Skilled labor such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC work are not part of the gig economy. Driving a car with a passenger in the back is not skilled work

another flawed viewpoint from these young dumbasses, at the beginning of your career you can't afford not to do those things, you start that discipline at the onset and get to your 50s and will be shocked at how much wealth you've accumulated, but no, got to have ...fill in the blanks ...now! young idiots don't no what "necessessities" really are
It costs more than $30k to provide slop for food and a single room for an inmate.

Maybe they are more disciplined than you realize for working the market rather than settle for poverty.

I do chuckle because I bet the greatest generation had their parents telling them if they couldn't afford gas horse and buggies are still a thing.

Of course, but $15/hour isn't "struggling," it's I can't afford gas to go to work or a shitty 1 bedroom apartment in the hood.

The willingness to work does not make you a good worker, especially in trades that require a large amount of skill. Just because you can hold a paintbrush doesn't make you a painter.

I bet they will be in a few years. People will get away from traditional 40 hour employment and hire as needed help.

Inflation for groceries I bet, not housing, health care, and education.

Wut? Business owners can’t just pay whatever the hell they want…
Beyond minimum wage, sure they can (although I disagree with minimum wage).

They can pay as much as they want.

Sure, but entry level position pay should still increase with time and inflation.

You can’t short people simply because it is “entry level”.

Of course it is. Do you know what gig means?

And on average salaries were 40% stronger relative than today

It’s just a fact man. The average entry level worker had a far greater living wage than today. Admitting that is simply admitting the truth. Trying to hide from it is so strange to try and be some badass is so strange

Generations before had it far better than zoomers when it came to income

We're filling a position that was previously held by a 22 yr old guy who had no degree or experience. He still lived at home. He showed up late all the time, called in "sick" often, yet complained that he never had enough time saved up for vacation (b/c when he called in sick, his PTO was used until he had none left and then the company allows you to go negative up to 40hrs).

He did buy that $1500 folding Samsung phone, bought a Subaru WRX that he then modded to no end, and spent $10+ for lunch everyday at fast food places.

We finally let him go when he no called no showed twice. He called in to inquire about his last paycheck, but I'm pretty sure he owed the company money based on his borrowing of PTO time.

If he'd have been a good employee, he'd have been promoted within the year.
Hey dipshit, all the good employees are working elsewhere with decent starting pay.

I keep having these arguments with my parents. They don't understand why kids are leaning towards socialism, and just lack of any sort of shite American companies have given their employees and focus on short term profits above all else have destroyed the market.

Exactly.

There is a difference.
