As many shitty people in this world deserve death, I am opposed simply because I have zero faith our judicial system will get it right. It would turn into a system of favors, good ole boys, and stepping stones in a DA's, LEO, and judges careers. Not too different than what we have today.

I agree this would be a problem, but I'm not necessarily in favor of just a blanket application of crime X is punishable by death.

What I am proposing is that after a trial, a judge can invoke a "detriment to society" ruling, essentially stating that the evidence is overwhelming and the person who is guilty is just a shitty human that will always be a cancer to society. it can be because they are a leach, a career criminal or the individual act is simply beyond what any normal person would do.

Which is precisely why it makes more sense to do it now, WITH those advancements in technology making it far less likely to wrongly convict.

And that also is not the point of this thread. If a person is arrested 20+ times and is a pure piece of shite that also has violent crimes or rape on his rapsheet, then it's impossible to get it wrong. The guy is obviously a detriment to society, and should be eliminated. I believe that's the point the OP is trying to make.

Exactly the point I'm making.

100% agree. I can think of few policies that would benefit the world as greatly as an increase in the number of murders of citizens carried out by governments.

Managing budgets is difficult and comes with great social cost, so it's understandable how legislative bodies could struggle with these choices; but taking human lives involves simple decisions with limited ethical dilemmas and presents no opportunity for impropriety.

Anyone who does 10 below the speed limit in the left lane should be dragged out of their car and executed on the side of the road.

We've messed up and executed innocent people, which is beyond fricked up IMO. More executions would cause more of this.

You get 1 wrong out of every 5000. I don't see a problem with that.

They should be put down for the first offense, granted that there is solid proof. Rap can be tricky though with all these chicks screaming rape after she doesn't get flowers by 8am the following morning

I dunno. I used to feel the same as the OP when I was younger, but as I've gotten older, I've developed less of a stomach for killing people.

I still believe in the death penalty, and I think it should be expanded, but not widely expanded.

I don't think it's much of a deterrent, honestly. But it is appropriate punishment for some.

There are a lot of worthless people out there, yes. And there's a lot of them who actively engage in ways to take things away from you. It's a shame. I can't stand it.

The hurdles that a prosecution has to go through today on a death penalty case makes the chance of making a mistake virtually nil. For example, there was DNA all over the place in the Derrick Todd Lee case. Do you think his conviction and sentence is a mistake?

Death penalty cases from a long time ago relied on eye witnesses, who can be confused or mistaken, and circumstantial evidence, which can mislead. Your argument actually works for cases from a fairly long time ago. I don't think it works now.

Did they determine they were pets and not wild dogs? Big difference.

If you're going to execute people that kill animals, why be arbitrary about which animals are being killed? If you eat meat you are responsible for more animals deaths. Should we execute you?

The rest of your post has merit but this is stupid

Arbitrary? Are you kidding? The person(s) trapped/gathered all these dogs, released them in one area, poisoned and shot them and left them suffering and half dead in the woods.

That isn't some humane euthanasia or honorable hunting practice. Its not about them being dogs. If someone did that with deer I'd say they were a complete psychopath too.

That person isn't fit to live IMO.

If they've committed dozens of serious crimes against other people over a lifetime and are in and out of jail for 30 years, yes.

frick that person.

Now if someone is a junkie and keeps getting caught with possession, no, don't kill them. They are mostly hurting themselves, not others.

To me, its not about deterring.

Its about removing them from the world.

I used to work in the service industry and interacted with 100s of people per day and one of the things I learned about this world is that there are a ton of shitty and completely worthless people.

Why are we only executing first degree murderers? Why not execute the guy that kills 57 dogs, or a 50 something career criminal that has been in and out of jail their whole adult life? Why can't we invoke some "detriment to society" law where if someone is just a piece of shite we can get rid of them?

I guarantee this lady that plowed down 40 people on Las Vegas Blvd won't face the death penalty due to some type of mental anguish defense. She above anyone else should be put down immediately, she is a lifelong loser that took someone else's life for no reason. frick this political correctness bullshite, there are way too many scumbags in our country it's time we start eradicating the ones that engage in criminal behavior.

And what makes you think you are so high and mighty? You sounds like a pretty shitty person to me with your pessimistic attitude and superiority complex. GFY.
