With our tech and know how a world with space ships and light savers can't be far from our reach.

Allows wondered if the storm trooper suit idea would be looked at by the military. Always thought the body armor would be great for saving arms and legs of troops getting hit by explosives etc...

Star Wars isn't the best example because it relies too heavily on fantasy elements. I hate that it's held up as the defacto standard of what sci-fi is, when it's not frickin sci-fi. It's fantasy with spaceships. You can't create the Star Wars world because the "force" is magic.

As far as spaceships, we can create spaceships. Im not sure where the gravity was coming from in them though, and the faster than light travel is obviously impossible. In a civilization that spanned multiple star systems (hell multiple planets) travel would take place at a much, much slower speed.
