It would be nice to have a way to drive through the state of Georgia without having to spend 2-3 hours stuck in Atlanta traffic.

This is a terrible idea.
Improving portions of 10, 12 and 20 with either widening, loops, larger bridges and better surfaces would be far more beneficial and cost a fraction of building and maintaining an entirely new interstate.

How many camps will be sacrificed in the Toledo Bend area.

That won't get traffic off I-1o

Ah yes the military superhighway. Maybe the pentagon can pay for it. If we quit acting like the world police and brought most of our troops home, the savings could probably pay for this in a year or two.

I'm not opposed to this idea but we have much more pressing highway needs in LA.

If they want to build it as a toll road, knock themselves out.

Lol LaDOTD would just slap a bunch of “I 14” signs on LA 28 and call it a day.

it would reduce poverty

I don't know about that, but it could definitely bring jobs in distribution, warehousing, and freight in areas where I-14 passes near existing north-south highways.

Alexandria and especially Brookhaven would be the ideal place for distribution centers, since they could easily reach markets in Memphis, New Orleans, Shreveport, Jackson, and Baton Rouge.

It would have bigger impact for the areas within a few hour's drive from Atlanta, Mobile, and Birmingham.

I could also see the areas along the route marketed for durable goods manufacturing if they have rail access (particularly for automobile and automobile component production) given their proximity to new plants in the southern US.

I guess all of this is irrelevant for us since it will take at least 30 years to finish the I-14.

the main benefit I see is it would help eliminate some I-10 traffic. It would take 30 years to acquire the land and do the construction. I imagine there would be toll roads associated with it. I for one would be for it.

I agree with that.

Unfortunately, creating alternative routes to I-10 in current and future joke points in Mobile, Baton Rouge, Beaumont, etc. just isn't a political priority.

There are so few alternative routes to I-10 and I-12 in south Louisiana that the whole region will probably be a choke point in the not to distant future.

I think it would be a great waste of money. It's basically 190 but way longer mostly passing through nowheresville. Have you ever been to Laurel, MS?

We’d be better off spending the money on 8 lane-ing I-10 and 12 from the Sabine to the Pearl.

Last week, in a thread about the chemical plants being planned in St James Parish, someone said that the state is looking at 4 laning hwy 3127 from I310 to Donaldsonville and extending it all the way to I 10 in Grosse Tete. I think this is something that should be done ASAP, as it would provide a bypass around BR for traffic heading toward Lafayette.

That’s another thing that’s been proposed for about 30 years. If you drive 3127 you’ll see the ROW is already done, the trees are cleared, and the foundation is built up to put the road on it. It’s been that way for decades.

Widening I=10 and loops around cities and towns would also be money better spent.

You’ll be waiting for decades for that. Arkansas is in no hurry to build through the hills and “mountains” between Texarkana and Ft Smith.

I wish Louisiana would extend 49 from 220 to 20 through the ghetto but Shreveport thought that would be racist.

Still looks a little too far North to unload I-10 too much. Unless a good chunk of the freight traffic is Atlanta to/from Houston, in that case US69 to I-14 looks shorter than US69 to I-10/I-12 through Baton Rouge and up I-59.

Anyone ever wonder why I-55 wasn't built on the west side of Maurepas to connect in with the Gramercy or Sunshine bridges?

Our state at work....

This would get coastal traffic from Cali. off of I-10 at Fort Stockton and avoid San Antonio, Houston, Beaumont, Lake Charles and Baton Rouge. How could this NOT be a boon?

Plus connecting the military bases more directly has always been a directive of the interstate program.

I’m all in just because it will remove a little traffic off I-10.
