Not deflecting... seriously what is happening now vs 170 years ago is damn important. Imagine the good that could happen if everyone got on black on black violence the way they are doing to this flag shite. Something might change.

All this outrage tells me one thing...black lives matter more when white people are to blame... a death is a death to the person killed no matter that race of the murderer. They are still dead. Honestly do you not ever tire of waking up with the chip on your shoulder? It has to be exhausting at some point.

I feel like removing the flags from a fricking monument and historical site somewhat defeats the purpose of the historical site.

Irrelevant.

But, because we are in solidarity with our Jewish brothers and sisters

Germany waged war on the civilized world - while the Jews deserve our collective sympathy and support, they weren't even the only victims of the Holocaust - heck - in the grand scheme of things, Nazi Germany killed more Slavs than Jews - but I digress.

quote:

we respect them enough not to fly it and those that express their free speech with it are verbally castrated

Ignoring speech is particularly dangerous. A number of confederate flags are appropriate at Fort Sumter as part of the whole display of flags - the site is beautiful and stark at the same time. There seems to be a decent breeze blowing most of the time, so when you're outside, all you really hear are those flags flapping.

It is impossible for a reasonable person to be offended by a confederate flag at this location, IMHO.

Haha, I'm far from a redneck. But if that's what "list" you want to add me to, I say go for it.

Redneck, Ignorant, InBred, Backwards, Racist.

I find it extremely intriguing and hilarious that liberals scream for free speech, yet at the same time demand political correctness. All of those terms you like to throw out for people who don't agree with your opinion prove your intelligence and how silly you come off to others.

You know what other group shuts down, pouts, and calls people names when they don't get their way? Children.....

I somehow doubt you return with a semi-coherent or remotely intelligent response, but it was fun bud. Keep living the dream, hope for change, and all that nonsense you've been fed due to being gullible and entitled.

That's insane to remve them from Fort Sumter. Even more amazing they take down two US flags, and two Confederate national flags. The second national flag has the battle flag on it, but we cannot just erase the history and remove it from historical markers.

quote:

At the First Battle of Manassas, near Manassas, Virginia, the similarity between the "Stars and Bars" and the "Stars and Stripes" caused confusion and military problems. Regiments carried flags to help commanders observe and assess battles in the warfare of the era. At a distance, the two national flags were hard to tell apart. In addition, Confederate regiments carried many other flags, which added to the possibility of confusion. After the battle, General P. G. T. Beauregard wrote that he was "resolved then to have [our flag] changed if possible, or to adopt for my command a 'Battle flag', which would be Entirely different from any State or Federal flag." He turned to his aide, who happened to be William Porcher Miles, the former chairman of the Confederate Congress's "Committee on the Flag and Seal". Miles described his rejected national flag design to Beauregard. Miles also told the Committee on the Flag and Seal about the general's complaints and request for the national flag to be changed. The committee rejected this idea by a four to one vote, after which Beauregard proposed the idea of having two flags. He described the idea in a letter to his commanding General Joseph E. Johnston: "I wrote to [Miles] that we should have "two" flags—a peace or parade flag, and a war flag to be used only on the field of battle—but congress having adjourned no action will be taken on the matter—How would it do us to address the War Dept. on the subject of Regimental or badge flags made of red with two blue bars crossing each other diagonally on which shall be introduced the stars, ... We would then on the field of battle know our friends from our Enemies."

You have the right to fly it. That's protected speech. People may call you stupid/ignorant/racist if you choose to fly it, but that is protected speech on their part too.

If you want it gone from public buildings fine, but from Fort Sumter?? That's asinine.

Fort Sumter is a public building.

Do you think it makes any sense that you can go on google and find all kinds of places to buy a Nazi flag but not a Confederate one?

It is incredibly easy to find places to buy confederate flags. Did you actually try googling it before making that comment?

Where a battle was fought between two sides. You make it sound like it's OK to show only one side of the battle.

That's like saying "Let's take down the British Flag at the New Orleans Battlefield. It offends my dead ancestors that fought in the war."

This is blatant whitewashing of history.

It is a monument to the Civil War. You make it sound like it is an office building.

Yes I did last night and it gave no options. Did you try?
