Most of this is a result of an eggcorn or malapropism. We learn most of our language through listening, and therefore never learn the phrase in its written form. Regional dialect and accents largely effect how many of these phrases are learned. Thus, when people type them out they are going to write them down the same way they say them.

Sure, but as your link clearly states, it is the result of people pronouncing the word incorrectly for years.
Dictionaries also include irregardless and the improper use of literally. It doesn't necessarily make it correct.
That being said, I didn't see the light until Broke educated the world in the thread on mispronounced words.
