Yep, but their permits are typically very politically motivated

Disagree 1,000%. Your mileage may vary, but if you meet the regs and guidelines, you may have to do some extra work to mitigate issues they feel are important but in my (firsthand) experience, it's not dependent on who you know.

I think people label it as failure partly because it hasn't helped traffic issues at the Baton Rouge river crossings

Exactly. It was never intended to do that.

The Audubon bridge is too far north to do much, if anything, for BR traffic.

It's a cool bridge, though. I'll give it that.

Genius.
That would cut my drive to the camp from 55 minutes down to about 30. You have my vote

Do you know how much of a PITA it is to get a permit to do anything in a wetland? To quote Donald Trump, "Yuge". It takes forever too.

Now tack on basically another interstate through the basin. Yeah, I don't see that happening

Where are you getting this stuff about going through the basin? The plan is for a spur off of I-10 somewhere before the Lobdell exit. Nobody has talked about building interstates through the basin.

I've seen 40 acre wetland permits approved in a short amount of time and I've seen a 0.3 acre sit at the corps for over a year. Guess which one had the swinging political dick behind it.

It's not supposed to help Baton Rouge traffic.

I think the solution is to build a new feeder interstate off I-10 in WBR, cross the river, and then tie it into Hwy 30, which you convert to a four lane all the way to Gonzales.

this is the only real solution to our problem. A real loop will never happen

Longtooth was talking about going elevated from 10 through the swamp to Plaquemine

I'm actually involved in elevating a highway in South Louisiana through two separate designated wetland areas and multiple other projects impacted by not only USACE but FEMA's Environmental and Historical Preservation folks. I'm confident in saying I'm more familiar with the USACE permitting process than you may realize.

It's not what you're characterizing it as. Period.

Maybe you've figured out some way to streamline the process better than anyone I've ever known. I'm referencing my dealings with the Corps of Engineers on a local level

It's fairly simple reasoning to deduce that large-scale, billion dollar projects mayyyyyy just move through the Corp's permitting process a tad faster than a pump station improvement project that occurs in a floodway or a smaller-scale drainage project that occurs in an environmentally sensitive area.

I understand your frustration. I have local dealings with them myself, in multiple local areas. The permitting process can be lengthy but applying your experience to all experiences is painting with too broad of a brush. Which is my entire point.

Not every permitting process is created equal.

The real issue is that the only site that makes sense (Plaquamine point) has been ruled out of the question.
maybe slightly north of there...it would come out on hwy.30 between st. gabriel and gardere (basically replacing the ferry)seems like the obvious choice.

The "new" bridge opened in '69 was supposed to be a bypass of BR 50yrs ago. It was supposed to go between Brusly and Addis. But, the intelligent state legislature moved it downtown for the ease of access to the capital. Now we are stuck in this mess we're in now.....

This is why most states have regional transportation authorities that can make decisions without local cronies

The decision on where to build a new bridge should be based on having the greatest regional traffic impact and not on which parish prez has the loudest mouth.

This x1000. If they would fix this they would actually be able to address the problems with the stupid I-10/110 corridor in BR.
