Good story about how politics plays into where to put the new bridge. Regardless of where it goes, I am disgusted by the way local dipshit politicians always manage to screw up stuff for everybody else.

That said, I think the solution is to build a new feeder interstate off I-10 in WBR, cross the river, and then tie it into Hwy 30, which you convert to a four lane all the way to Gonzales.

The guy that compared the Iberville site to the JJ Audubon bridge is spot on....it would be just plum stupid to build it that far south of 10.

This is why most states have regional transportation authorities that can make decisions without local cronies

The decision on where to build a new bridge should be based on having the greatest regional traffic impact and not on which parish prez has the loudest mouth.

If this means getting back proportionally based on what you put in I don't think he really wants that.

I've put in more thought into this "free study" than most politicians have in the 30 minutes it took me to do this. The only thing that should be an issue is the stretch through Plaquemine and the placement of the bridge in the turn of the river. Maybe some issue going through the swamp...but it would have to be mostly elevated and wouldn't be a ton of impact.

I just looked at the big picture. Where existing infrastructure is and where the least impact to homes would be. Hwy 30 should already be 4 lanes from Gonzalez to BR so that's a no brainer...And I've heard there is already a plan for a flyover between Bluff and Old Jeff. out in P-Ville.

All of your fancy coloring is cool and all, but there already is a bridge going across the MS River. And good luck trying to get a single thing built through the basin. That shite ain't happening

The Sid Richardson road spot in Addis is too close to the existing bridge.

The Dow Chemical spot is on the other side of Sardine Point from the Sid Richardson spot and would dump drivers off at the tip of the east bank peninsula and far away from any major arteries.

The Bayou Goula location is too far south.

If there was a good spot for a bridge it would have been built already.

Uh, no, for 2 reasons.

1. Plant traffic needs to be diverted from as near the source as possible
2. It's a good location on the east adjacent bank to tie in with I-10 for a southern loop.

There are several actually. A bridge is only as good as it's location and a new one is desperately needed somewhere south of BR to divert traffic away from the center of BR.

I actually incorporated a new and unimpeded link from i10 to the old MS bridge that would facilitate it's increased usage.

Why not?

It's a good plan, but you are correct. It probably won't happen because we are a poor state with lots of corruption and backwards thinking.

Oh wait your serious....because every time I see that on here I instinctively laugh.

Let's face it....we won't see a loop off of I-10 anywhere near BR in our lifetime....the best we can hope for is a slight diversion (for lack of a better term)...hence the comment the Bayou Goula location is too far south. I think Plaquemine is too far south to....but it is more workable.

As long as its diverted at some point is the key....how close we get them to their damn parking spot is irrelevant to me....we just need to get them off the current bridge into the city (BR) if possible.

I think they should do a Southern bypass (possibly connected to a full loop) that crosses in Ascension near Modeste, then connects to I-10 between Hwy 30 and Hwy 44. That would be a lot easier to carry through Ascension, across the Amite, and up to I-12 than connecting around Spanish Lake.

Although another bridge going across in Iberville like longtooth drew out would be great and would help a lot, it wouldn't be as easy to carry forward into a full loop.

If he wants it in Ibberville, it has to be a lot farther up river between Plaquimine and DOW.

Well that loop will need a bridge and, rather than putting a bandaid on the problem like these incompetent central planners do, we need to setup a potential corridor rather than paint ourselves into a corner like we've done for the past 60 years.

I disagree. The priority is getting them over the river in the shortest route possible.
