Begging for money is cool now.

Somewhere in between is probably right.

No point in waiting until you are too old to enjoy doing anything fun by saving all the time.

No point in having to work until you are 70 because you didn't save and spent all of your money.

Did not and will not read the article, but the premise isn't wrong, at least as it's relating gambling and networking.

In your twenties, you are more likely to be single, have less assets and basically have the ability to take on what could otherwise be crushing debt if you don't succeed at your gamble because you have the ability to go through bankruptcy and/or work your way out of debt over time. It is also the time to network. People do this in many ways: lawyers go to law school, doctors medical school, and future CEOs business school, but you can also do it by smartly directing your social experiences to put you into contact with current or future movers and shakers.

That said, if you have no savings to speak of, you're an idiot, and if you're networking by hanging out with the same 5 bros you've been hanging out with since childhood, you're not networking, you're wasting your time.

Few things piss me off more than this. I spend around $25-30K/year traveling for my kid's karate tournaments. And on facebook there are always people we know asking for "donations" or using begging sites to fund their kids travel - like people don't have their own kids to spend their money on.

Must suck to be poor? If you wait to save until you are 55 you will eventually find out.

That's about 10 seconds of periodic scrolling down a web page I will never have back.

I pretty much agree with you.

I was having a discussion about my future with my parents a while back and they asked me what my goals were. In life, in the next 5 years, next year, etc... I told them that my goal in life was to have the most fun that I possibly could and they were basically appalled that I would say something like that. If that's not the goal in life, then what is? I get that you have to work to get money and opportunity to reach that goal, but that's my goal. Have the most fricking fun possible.

I imagine that site is mostly frequented by car and cell phone salesmen. The worst.

I wish I would have spent more money in my 20s, especially on shite that I didn't need but wanted

because once you get married and have kids, the shite that you want but don't need...yeah, you are not getting it

I regret being smart and hoarding money when I was younger. Well...I don't regret all of it, just wish I would have spent a little more on myself when I could.

What a stupid article. Not to mention it's the exact opposite of what most people in their twenties are doing.
