This is the dumbest article I have ever read. Let me know how that works out for you when you lose your job or get sick.

quote:

Your 20s are not the time to save; they’re the time to gamble. $200 a month isn’t going to make the dent that a $60,000 pay raise will after spending all those nights out networking.

I am in my 20s and save a tremendous amount. I can also afford to buy a ticket to Tokyo and jump on a plane first thing tomorrow if it was something that interested me.

ETA: I use this as only an example to say savings enables the opportunity for experiences.

Agree. Friend needs shoulder surgery. Hi-deduct plan of $7000 then 80-20 split.

He has saved grand total of $4500. He is having to take out a loan of $6000 at 9.65%. He is lucky he doesn't have to take a payday loan at over 25%.

I don't care if I make more or less money than you. Im not interested in grading success in life by my bank statement.

Money is security and opens up doors to experiences. It doesn't have to define a person.

This is the bio for the author. Doesn't surprise me.

Lauren Martin is a Senior Lifestyle Writer at Elite Daily. After graduating from PSU, she moved to NYC to write fart jokes at Smosh Magazine. Making her way to ED, she now writes riveting commentary on nude pics, condoms and first dates.

That website is the absolute worst. I always see the most annoying people from high school share those Elite Daily articles on Facebook.

The comments are pretty much unanimously destroying the article.

i didn't read the article but based on your OP i understand the point he is trying to make.... when you are young you can afford to Gamble/invest your money more so then when you are 40 and married with kids.

You don't become wealthy by saving... you become wealthy by investing. And there is no better time to start than when you are a young adult.

That is how they justify their partying and laziness.

They consider interacting with people in bars and clubs to be "networking".

Going out for drinks with colleagues or meeting someone for lunch is networking. $200 of partying is not.

Americans live to work, and Europeans work to live. I refuse to wait until retirement to enjoy the fruits of my labor. If you're always saving for a rainy day, all you're going to have are rainy days.

Never understood why people are so hung up on the accumulation of money. Life is for living - spend your money. You can't take it with you. I'll start saving for my golden years when I hit 55. Must suck to be poor.

do you realize the country/society we live in today? Everything must be justified and your actions/decisions must satisfy everyone else in the society.
