If you get scratched by a dog, what’s the protocol?

Was while jogging in a nice neighborhood but not sure if the dog was a stray or a random dog that had gotten loose. There was a woman who was stopped in a vehicle in the middle of the street trying to corral it, but I couldn’t tell if it was her dog who had gotten out of the car or if she had stopped to try to help a stray.

Anyway, the dog came after me and took a small nick in my knee…barely drew blood but there was a tiny bit. I would assume this dog was vaccinated given the neighborhood this was in and the circumstances, but no way to know.

Is rabies a concern for such a tiny (non-puncture) wound? If I go to a doctor and tell them this, what am I in for?

You'll turn into a dog next full moon.

Hopefully it wasn't a pit bull, for the sake of your children

Immediately establish dominance. Piss in the dogs face. Then find the owner and shite in their yard. Keep the dog. It’s yours now.

The question is based on whether or not rabies may be a concern…the the wound itself.

Treat it like any other cut you get outdoors. If the dog was rabid there is a very small chance some saliva would have been on his claws but other than that just the myriad of germs and fungus he gets from walking around with no shoes on. A good wash and Neosporin for the next couple of days and it should heal fine, if it doesn't start to heal on a normal timeframe or gets hot, red, has draining puss or you start foaming at the mouth you got bigger issues.

Rabies prophylaxis is super expensive.

4 doses of vaccine is pricey, but the dose of immunoglobulin is super expensive. It totals up to 10s of thousands.

and you should get a real medical opinion, not the OT.
