My gf’s kid is in travel hockey. Some of the parents are so cringe. I don’t like this shite and they try to get me to care. I don’t.

I would imagine if a kid is playing hockey around here, he would have to travel. LOL

Haha travel hockey parents are the worst and it’s the most expensive outside of rodeo or equestrian type stuff. shite is intense AF in the north east. Makes all other travel sports seem like country club

I may have a unique perspective. I coached dixie for 20 years, 11-12 year olds. Haven't been to a game in 15 years. Went to a travel ball game last weekend. I was in awe. Very high quality game. Routine double plays, leading off, pick offs, perfect bunting. Wow, I was impressed. Those kids were probably better than 16 of the 20 all star teams I was associated with.

But, I KNOW, these were the picks of the liter. But, I was impressed. Enjoyed the game a lot. Only 4 walks the entire game.

My bad that was HS, but here is little league ball right here in which a coach was hurting the kids from the opposite team while shaking hands after the game.

Youtube

A parent knocks out an umpire.

Youtube

This one has been posted before, as well as many others, but its an assistant coach fighting a fan.

Yea my 11 year olds team averages less than two walks per game, the other teams are the same.

If you are in BR go watch the super nit this weekend at traction for 12u or if in plaquemine go to bell view park and watch the 11u kids.

Will be some of the best teams in the country there. Got to watch majors division. Stupid how good these kids are.

The McClure’s pelicans org, the traction teams, knights from mandeville, saints, rays all have great teams in the BR area.

You posted little league

And of course there will be fights some where in the country. The simple statistics back that up. It’s always been like that though. Doesn’t means a normal occurrence and in LA they have cops at all the tournaments just for crowd control etc. in 6 years I have never ever seen a fight at any tournament. I’m sure there are some but you won’t see it often, atleast in Louisiana and certainly not at the upper levels, maybe some local AA tournament

A travel team my godchild played for over a decade ago played the Lafayette Little League team that competed in Williamsport in a tournament prior to the LLWS.

This team had 5 kids that played for LA D-1 schools eventually. They beat that LL team 15-4. All Acadiana area kids, but there’s no way a team from a neighborhood area is going to get good enough without playing better competition outside of the area.

None of the LL teams today are advancing b/c of the competition they are facing within their league. LOL

That being said, 7u coaches pitch travel ball is a money grab. These kids don't need to be traveling in our area until 11-12u at the earliest.

When I bitch about travel/tournament ball, this is what I’m talking about. fricking tryouts and cuts for Tee ball and coaches pitch.

Play 30-40 games in the spring and play other sports.

The serious organization’s start year round at 7u. Are there some that allow fall sports to be played? Yes, but if your kid likes basketball you’re fricked.

Why does travel ball always get so much hate on this site? Almost every sport has a version of it now....and it really all started with soccer. Flag football, soccer, AAU basketball, golf, baseball (of course) all do it.

I think most of the posters here are talking about boys sports, so not really about flag football or soccer.

Maybe because the people are trashy, the redneck dads live through their kids, they play 17 games every weekend to win a tournament and then go the next weekend and do the exact same thing. All so little Caleb can make the high school team but redneck dad thinks that means early retirement for him and his 3rd wife because his boy has what it takes to make it to the show. And don’t forget batting practice for 6 hours per day. All because redneck dad definitely would have made the majors if he hadn’t injured his ankle his senior year of high school ball.

no they dont. i been in this a long time. Houston aera sure...around here hardly any teams play more than 1 or max 2 fall ball tournaments.

95% of 7u and 8u teams in Louisiana play 1 fall ball, then play 10-12 tournaments march-june. Al you have to do is go look at 2d, PG, USSSA websites for teams in the state

as far as basketball and baseball, they interfere in high school too but many 7u/8u kids play basketball. mine does. once march starts though he misses alot.

but basketball should be played dec-feb. problem is the basketball leagues pushed times back to start late jan-march ...march is traditionally when baseball starts

My question is why is all the hated directed towards only baseball?

Because fricking retard parents overdo it and the kid has to play year round so he can make his shitty high school team. Then the kid needs elbow surgery at 14. BTW, that scenario just happened to a guy I knew from football.

This thread is hilarious with the amount of people that don't know anything about the subject. It got the responses that I expected from people with no experience.

This has been my first year with "travel" ball as my son is playing 7U. 95% of you are wrong about everything. The only one that seems to have experience is lsu777.

From my experience, we don't travel. Every tournament has been in BR and will continue to be. We are not planning on playing fall ball either.

The level of competition is night and day compared to rec ball. Lots of teams are turning routine double plays, nasty back hands at short, and low scoring. We had one game go 6 innings and finish 2-1 the other week. It's not the cult that this site thinks it is and I have only met 1 parent out of all the other teams that was a douche.

No, I'm not banking on my kid getting a scholarship, but that's not what it's about. Life is hard, jobs are hard, parenting is hard. He needs to learn that nothing good comes without extreme hard work and that's why we are doing this. He's loved every second so far and I do not regret it one bit. And lastly he's 6, so talk your shite, but I guarantee you he knows how to outwork the keyboard cowboys on this site.

guess this is where I show my age. I remember growing up it was fall football or soccer , winter basketball and spring baseball. You had your little group of neighborhood kids that all grew up and played each of the sports together.

Heck soccer makes you sign up for twice a year just to keep your little team intact which really cuts into baseball. So If you only want to play in the fall there’s a shot you’ll be on a different team in the spring, which sucks cause the kids really only want to have fun with their friends.

some do. some kids want to compete and love the game. but yea in a lot of places its not that baseball is cutting into other sports its the opposite.

football used to be sept-end of october.
basketball nov-jan
baseball- march-may

football is the same but basketball has moved. baseball is fall practice, 1-2 fall tournaments and march-june.

i dunno about soccer cause every area does it different and most areas have fall and spring and they were the first to really adopt the European club model

but jesus guys, you cant do every single sport under the sun. eventually got to choose, even at 8.

the complaints are getting insane, god forbid a kid only be able to play 3 sports plus fall soccer.

My experience was that we played in 6 or 7 tournaments in the fall. We traveled an hour away for 5 of them. They practiced for 2 hours twice a week plus travel. Every kid took extra hitting lessons from the head coach which was another hour once a week with travel. That's 5+ hours committed to practice per week with the team excluding any practice at home, plus 4+ hours of driving per weekend, several hours of sitting around, and 2 games that were an hour long each on Saturday and Sunday. For some people that's fine, but for us that was way too much.

Add to that all of the kids having $300 bats, $150 gloves, $100 glasses, ridiculous arm sleeves, eye black, gold chains, mullets, walk up songs, etc, and it was not even remotely something we enjoyed.
