As a former travel parent I agree. These are the worst from my experience

The whole travel baseball thing is so lol.

Travel ball is fricking up little league baseball and softball, big time.

My son plays rec coaches pitch baseball. There are fricking travel teams for as young as 7u coach pitch baseball. The amount of money spent on organizations, bats, lessons, and tournaments is insane.

A big reason why baseball is losing its foothold in America. The entry point at the youth level prices out everything below the upper middle class.

Why does travel ball always get so much hate on this site?

Because the continuous reach of travel/tournament ball down in age has ruined neighborhood/rec ball.

And they all suck

My question is why is all the hated directed towards only baseball?

Because the majority of parents on this site do not have kids athletic enough for travel flag football, basketball, or soccer.

The whole thing is as close to a cult as I've seen.

One of the greatest things Satan ever did was convince The Joneses that Travel Ball would make their lives happy.

Hell yeah marking that down along with Absolutely Ridiculous sliding mitt for Christmas. And a new ring holder cause we running out of places to put them. My nine year old hits it so hard we make him swing wood so he doesn’t hurt the other kids too bad. All we do is win.

So there is an everyday chain as opposed to a not-every day chain?

Tryouts at a place like Catholic High for example are insane. Every kid out there has played at the highest level on only the best travel teams. You could make good playoff teams from the players who never see the field.

The funniest is when the kid is in a shite school while the travel ball queen drives a $80K Tahoe and is spending $10K a year on registration and travel for the kid.

I like the term travel baller - sounds like a business dude that flies first class off the points all expenses paid by the company as a tax write-off as a business expense, of course....

lots of parents end up doing it now reluctantly because the rec leagues have very little talent at all. so pick your poison, awful rec leagues or travel ball lifestyle. i hate it

Rec ball is a total disaster. The parents are often worse than travel ball parents as well.

The real tragedy of the poor is the poverty of ambition.

In other words, seeking a lottery ticket through kids is wrong and not to mention stupid.

Edit: this topic has me thinking fetal alcohol syndrome is more prevalent than reported.

At some point if the kid continues to progress he has to play against better competition to get better. There is not much of that left in recreation ball. They don’t have to play on the best most expensive teams, but they have to at least see decent competition.

We went this route for this exact reason and only lasted 2 months. I hated them and they hated me.
