If someone uses the term “significant other” or “partner” do you assume they are gay?

Many overseas use the term partner. But generally yes.

If you’re that short sighted you might be a redneck.

I call them “my being”

That way they can identify as anything and it doesn’t offend anyone

if not gay you must use it like " this is my hetero life mate, Silent Bob" type introduction...totally acceptable

Out of an abundance of caution, I just assume everyone I run across is gay until proven otherwise.

I've been listening to a podcast with some famous hollywood types and they all use partner, the gay and the straight. I think the gays use partner and the straight use it out of respect for the gays. But words have no meaning anymore. Two years ago non-binary meant analog.

I'm 35 and using "girlfriend" makes me feel like I'm in junior high.

I have a family member that's been in a committed relationship for damn near 15 years, but neither of them want to get re-married. "Boyfriend" doesn't really fit and he's not her "husband". Partner just seems like the preferred word there.

What they watching for, Americans who still believe in the first amendment, or people to put on the train to the re-education camps?

If it's just one person then yes, but how else do you refer to a group of people and their wives, girlfriends, boyfriends and husbands? SO is the only thing I can think of

So, does that make you a homophobe?
