If that's the case, then a full trade war with intent of destroying them economically would be the least messy.
Any form of warfare, bomb or otherwise, would be a huge mess, but it could come to that depending on world reaction in such a scenario.

It's just a little too convenient how all protests in Hong Kong immediately ended when the virus hit. The protests dominated the news daily for months. It definitely isn't far-fetched to consider that the Chinese regime to put the virus out there in order to save face.
