I think there are about 17 shots in a fifth. 2 fifths = 34 shots. Almost 6 shots a day if you take one day off.

If you drink 5 days a week, that's just shy of 7 shots per day. Assuming that you work, you don't start until after 5. So if one of the days your drinking is a work day, then you're drunk.

And if your drunk more than a few times a week, you're a drunk.

Now, are you an alcoholic? Can you quit? Does it negatively affect your life?

The only people I know that drink that much are alcoholics.

There's roughly 17 shots in a fifth (750ml = roughly 25 oz., 25oz at 1.5oz per shot = 17).

So... 34 drinks in a week. That's nearly 5 drinks a day...

I won't say you're a clinical alcoholic, but you're a drunk in my book. I have no idea if you're physically dependent upon alcohol, but good Lord, dude, you should cut back.

Imo, if you do anything that takes you from covering your responsibilities as a man, father and/or husband you have a problem.

So I guess I shouldn't ask what two-three handles a week might mean

I would say so. The doctor recently told me to stop or slow down on drinking. And I was polishing off a 5th a week.

She said 2 drinks twice a week, and maybe 4 drinks once. I am having a hard time doing that, but I certainly have cut down a lot.

I used to only drink whisky but find beer a bit easier to keep under the limits.

That is what I thought. I've done more of my fair share of drinking in my life and I have a very high tolerance and I could not even think about it being possible. I would think 1 week of drinking like that would kill you.

I tell you moderation is harder than sobriety

That's dumb female bullshite. You should never drink more than you're comfortable drinking, but "two drinks two times a week, maybe four drinks once" is in no way founded in medical science.

That's a load of bullshite. Two drinks is the physiological equivalent to no drinks for me and many others.

The broad strokes about alcohol consumption, Willenbring says, are fairly simple. Low risk drinking, “according to the NIAAA, for men, is no more than four drinks in one day, and no more than 14 drinks in a week.” For women, he says, “it’s no more than three drinks in any day and no more than seven drinks in any week.”

Those figures may seem to contradict recommendations made by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which call for no more than one drink per day for women, and no more than two drinks per day for men, but Willenbring says it’s just that the other guidelines present the number of drinks as a daily average, as opposed to offering two sets of guidelines—by both day and week. “It’s important that both the daily and the weekly limits be considered, because, for example, if a man has four drinks in one day, or has four drinks every day then he’s going to violate the weekly [total for low risk drinking].”

this is hard for binge drinkers. I will never understand how someone can start drinking a warm bottle of vodka hidden in their home and not be able to quit until they are brain dead stupid drunk.

If you even have to ask, then yes you are a drunk. Alcoholics go to meetings, and try and right themselves. Welcome to a life of misery.

That's a lot of alcohol in my book. A handle of whiskey will last me months.
