Two fifths a week is probably at the very, very low end of "heavy drinking". That's about 34 shots a week or just under 5 shots per day.

If you're not a daily drinker, that sounds like a lot. That's child's play for many a successful American. Hell a good many drink 20 or more shots a weekend in college. That leaves 14 shots for the other five days (fewer than three per day).

Bunch of judgmental assholes in here. Slippy--I don't think you are an alcoholic strictly based on the amount you consume. So many other factors to consider.

Do you handle business?
Are your relationships with others affected?
Etc.

My dad used to say you can drink as much as you want, if it doesn't interfere with your job or relationships.

What kind of an adult needs to drink every single night? Time to reevaluate your life.

Not for me. Moderation is much easier than none at all. Never really get drunk on a couple each night (drinks), but I really feel I need to cut down.

That only equates to about 35 mixed drinks per week or 5 per day. If you stretch it out throughout the day, you won't even get a buzzz.

You are a professional. One of my guys told me one day that his grandfather drank a handle a day, every day. I was like DAYUM!

I don't see how that's possible. Impressive but I'd like to see it in practice.

I worked with a guy who would drink a 12 pack of beer every night M-F and a 24 pack every Saturday and Sunday. He was very open about his functional alcoholism. He said he had gotten to the point where the 12 pack would just give him a slight buzz. He looked forward to the weekends when he could put down 24 and actually get drunk.

Do you ask yourself if you're a bullfrog? Of course not.

If you have to ask....

I make a 20 oz foamer of whiskey every night. A fifth is about 26 ounces. Each foamer with ice will kill a fifth in about three pours. It is not as much as you'd think.

That's a lot of frickin whiskey to be drinking on a Tuesday night. Hate to break it to ya.

Not that I'm one to be sanctimonious or anything

I'm not an a-hole..... I'm a pretty nice guy, that tries to help others, but just has a reality side to myself. If that makes me an a-hole then so be it I suppose.

Obviously, because like most people with alcohol abuse issues, you've built up a tolerance to the intoxicating effects. Make no mistake though, you are beating the crap out of your liver. Every drink effects the liver. If you drink two handles per week, your liver will be a contracted, fibrous rock by the time you're 50. Cirrhosis is a terrible way to go out.

Go see a doctor. Your liver and stomach are fricked and you have lost a shitload of brain cells.

I was kind of doing this for a couple of years back in my mid-twenties.

What I'd recommend is this: get yourself some really high quality marijuana. Smoke up (5-6 hits does it) and supplement with red wine. Enjoy a documentary or some jazz. Look at an actual Playboy. Enjoy the feel of the paper magazine and smell the cheezy colognes while you look at boobs (appreciate this as your grandfather and father did).

Instead of poisoning your body slowly, you'll be doing something that is way gentler and more fulfilling.
