I rarely meet people from afar that have good things to say about Houston. That place is fricking gross, the drivers suck, and the weather is absolutely disgusting.

Outside of the job market, there is zero fricking reason to migrate to Houston.

Mississippi beach are nice compared to brown water algae filled beaches of Galveston.

However you can go to Matagorda and the beach is as pretty as Destin.

In the US(population wise)? I mean it already is large but with it's generous city limits coupled with great weather and strong commerce I think it could be.

Just about the best thing you can say about Houston is it has some pretty good restaurants, a lot of people, and Rice is a good school. Those are the only redeeming qualities about Houston.

this ... relatively dangerous due to rip currents compared to the gulf east of biloxi, though i've noticed the past 2 summers there seems to be an increase in deaths from rip currents in the gulf shores/pcb area ...

NYC >>>>> Houston

Los Angeles >>> Houston (Houston is Los Angeles w/o the good parts)

Chicago >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Houston

Only people from Houston or from really shitty places who move to Houston think Houston remotely compares to those cities. No one in 90% of the USA gives a flying frick about Houston.

I know people from up north who moved to Houston and eventually moved back because it was to hot for them.

I watched a show that posed the question, which cities wouldn't exist in their current capacity without air conditioning. Houston and Atlanta were the two majors and I can see that (New Orleans was already a bigger city before AC). Made me realize how hot it is and how difficult it would be for a lot of people.

Both are actually very similar cities. Both developed a great deal after WWII, both were the same size around the 1850's, both grew due to oil, both are characterized by massive sprawl and both have major Hispanic populations. I really dislike Houston due to it's sprawl, and I dislike Los Angeles for the same reason.

No way. NYC (20 mil) and LA's (16 mil) metro area populations are so much bigger than Chicago's (9.5 mil) and Houston's (6 mil).

That is a really big difference between the top two and the next two. IDK if anything could help make that up.
houston is barely 100 years old. All the others have 100+ years of being established. I'm not saying houston is perfect, or better than any other city. I'm saying they've come a lot further in their first 100 years than all the others, and seem to be on a meteoric rise in economy and population

bull shite

I've hated cold weather ever since I was 5 years old, freezing my arse off in Massachusetts and walking around snowdrifts that were taller than I was

I will never live in the North again
