If a crime happens to you in NOLA, are you basically on your own?

....From the Marigny attack the other day, to armed robberies, assaults, car break ins, vehicle theft, hit and runs, etc. etc.

With police response times the way they are, it seems to me it is survival of the fittest.

Unless the crime committed against you is public urination, NOPD won't be a lot of help.

he deserved that, sorry.

(maybe not the broken neck, but he started the fight)

Yes, you are on your own in NOLA.

Well when you are laying on the street paralyzed almost beaten to death and the NOPD take 40 minutes to get to you, there seems to be a problem there.

Exactly. Isn't the nearest NOPD station only like a mile away?

If it's a white on black hate crime in a donut shop, you should get help pretty soon.

I would think so, check out this article today from NOLA.

quote:

His story seemed to resonate all across the city. New Orleans businessman Trey Monaghan, writing in an opinion piece last month, shared with agonizing detail how he chased a suspected burglar outside his newly opened restaurant on St. Claude Avenue, only to have to wait more than an hour for a police officer to show up.

"I started to realize that the police were not coming when the dispatcher told me she had to go," Monaghan wrote. "After a half hour, I decided I had to get back to fixing the problem the robber had created."

A call to New Orleans police, many residents have learned, likely comes with a wait – a long wait in most cases.

Residents who called NOPD through September of this year had to wait an average 73 minutes for police to dispatch an officer their way. That's nearly four times as long as it took in 2011, when the average dispatch time was 15 minutes, according to an analysis of NOPD calls.

quote:

In some parts of the city, like eastern New Orleans and Gentilly, the average wait can top two hours, the data show. Algiers residents in the 70131 Zip code saw the lowest average dispatch time, a still-long 36 minutes.

The dispatch wait time is worse for non-violent crimes. Calls for burglaries have waited more than four hours on average this year. Homicides and armed robberies, on the other hand, get an officer dispatched on average after 8 and 19 minutes, respectively.

The NOPD has some serious issues. I think the private security patrols that roam around uptown do a better job at protecting the public.

I live in Metairie unfortunately for the time being. 8 months ago I was at the Rum House on Magazine when my wife called me and said there was a man wondering around our back yard looking in the windows. Our back yard is gated and so is our neighbors. You cant get in there on accident.

I had her lock herself in the bedroom with my pistol and call the police. I could hear the dog going nuts so I hailed a cab and paid him $100 bucks to get there as fast as possible.

I BEAT THE COPS TO MY HOUSE IN A CAB ALL THE WAY FROM MAGAZINE. I dont trust law enforcement around here at all anymore.

Dog must have scared the guy off but it was a real eye opener to find foot prints in my garden in the back yard from this guy.

Huge problem that falls right on the shoulders of the Mayor. Mitch makes it sound like we need help from the Federal and State government but the probem is lack of NOPD. We have the budget for more officers. We need an aggressive incentive for people to become NOPD officers. Free housing, tax incitives, something.

Although I did have to call NOPD last February and they came out in under 10 mins. I was shocked how fast they responded.

In Kenner I called 911 a few years ago and had a cop at my house before I finished the call.

A few months ago there was a guy beating off in a park and I called KPD and got a cop in less than two minutes.

People can shite on Kenner all they want, but when you need a cop you never wait more than five minutes.
