Tennessee Farmers are hoping and praying the ice does not melt off their berry plants before the 3 below zero deep freeze sets in Thursday morning. LINK The ice storm has all vegetation covered with ice. Nashville was shut down all day today with thick ice on all roads.

I'm sure there are federal subsidies for them.

Very strange weather, started snowing at around 5pm at 24 degrees.
Now its freezing rain with the temperature rising slowing toward morning. So by 8am it should be around 35 degrees but the ground and roads are frozen after being 7 degrees the past two nights. We have not been above freezing all week. So will all the rain stay frozen when it goes above freezing with the ground frozen? Very strange next 12 hours.

Yes, it is very strange that the temperature will rise so quickly after being so cold this week. I feel bad for all the precip that you received too.

It has been an odd week weather wise. Calling for flood conditions tomorrow due to the rain fall and ice melting off. Should be an absolute blast.

Do a little research chief. All direct payments to farmers have been done away with. The only safety net the gov provides now is insurance based and isn't significant. Its a matter of national security having a safe, reliable source of food and fiber. All the money in the "farm bill" goes to food stamps. No farmers, no food.
