Colleague of mine has a son playing. Didn't know much about the sport. Read up on the basic rules on my phone during the 1st quarter.

I actually enjoyed it. Its fast-paced, good athletes, good defense matters, and there were some pretty good hits. I know that its huge on the East coast - why hasn't it caught on in the South. It was much more enjoyable to me than soccer.

Some of the private schools down here do it, especially at the grade school level.
It's a rougher sport than I thought it was. Those kids get the hell beat out of them with the sticks

It is actually a cool sport, but everybody that plays or is a big fan is an insufferable douche. Comparable to people that are big into crossfit IMO

I played in boarding school and college

A big deterrent I think for parents is the injuries are through the roof and kids literally die sometimes when someone rips a shot and it nails them in the chest

South is all about football. I played at a private school for a couple of year and the biggest downfall was only having so many schools that can fill a team. Same can be said for Men's Volleyball which you would think would be more popular.

Cost is a big deterrent. Kids dying not so much since that rarely ever happens.

Why do you think men's volleyball would be more popular?

the New York indian tribes play it to this day, a rougher version.

its become a preppy sport in the northeast.

why hasn't it caught on in the South.
it does not have the drama of football. football has time between plays.
Suspense grows. Everyone opines as to the best next play.
football is the best spectator sport.

If u think lax is tough try hockey ..... field lax is pretty mild no cross checks but they can body check. Lots of room so really not make you big hits.
You want to see a fast paced game try box lacrosse. It's indoors on hockey floor... no ice. Cross checking 30 second shot clock. Check out natl lacrosse league

I'd agree. The only reason I played lacrosse was our hockey coach required a 2nd sport and it made the most sense.

Box gets old because the overly pinched heads and athleticism isn't nearly as big a factor it's why you see guys like John grant JR playing until they're 100

Easier to play because there is more likely to be a women's team. More people are exposed to Volleyball. Most people who have "gym class" will be exposed to volleyball as opposed to LAX. Also, most people are less likely to be exposed to it because someone they know hasn't played it. You can always find volleyball nets, but you rarely see LAX nets in a park unless there is a league.

It's been around in the South for a while, but the only guys I knew who played in high school were rich kids who didnt play any other school sports. The fact that it was a club sport that was exspensive to play is what attracted them to it.

So how much of the game did you actually watch vs staring at the cheerleaders?

Confession time.

Lacrosse is a really cool sport to watch. I would have loved to have been able to play it in high school if we would have had it

what I don't understand is how an athlete like jim brown didn't just tuck that ball against his chest with his stick and run like a train to the goal and score with ease. I mean frick.........they can't tackle.

Jim brown is a god. But he played the game with finesse how it was intended to be
