It used to be just an East Coast and West Coast prep school thing...of which there are a lot of catholic prep schools.
After the 80's/90's it escaped its Prep school tag and became a huge sport among park going people in California and of course the East Coast.

Add Minnesota to the list. Pretty huge up in the Cities with the hockey players. Put down the hockey sticks and pickup the lacrosse sticks in the spring.

My son dropped baseball for a new lacrosse team in Southern MN. Growing like crazy the last few years.
