The post isn't even that long, for all of the people complaining.

To the OP, I don't know what to say other than discuss your approach with the stepfather. Are you sure that the mom isn't going to try to pull some crazy stuff up? I would suggest researching the statute of limitations for crimes like rape in your jurisdiction as well, just to be safe.

Once a child is adopted the mother can no longer receive child support.
My step dad could not adopt me when I was younger because we would lose my biological fathers social security.

For what it's worth, I have a relative that was not allowed to see his child until the child was 8. For the first five years, he did not even know about it. During the past 5 years he has cultivated a wonderful relationship with this child. He basically did not pressure the kid and went out and had fun with him. He let his son lead him. I wish you well. Stay positive. Don't bad-mouth mom to him. Tell him the truth by saying you did not know he existed or something like that. When the time is right, let him know he is so special that he has two fathers. Do not give him any indication, he has to choose who his "real father" is. Fast forward 10 years and you'll be attending his college graduation. AGain, best. Keep us posted from time to time.

The million dollar question is why would this woman say she was gang raped rather than letting you be a father to this kid?

There's something wrong with that picture.

That is very interesting. Are you certain that is still the law and that the stepdad filled out all of the adoption papers?

Why don't you speak to a child psychologist or therapist?

I am reaching out to all walks of people. I just know every once in a while this place produces some good information.
I was also just needing to vent. I have told the story 1000 times and it feels better every time I tell it.

Her family was poor. My family had a little money. She was worried she would lose the child to us and she was afraid her mother would cut her off from the rest of the family as well as her scholarships.

Thank you kind sir

Dad swears he does not want anything from us. He just wants the child to be happy. I do not want to step in and try to be the MAN in his life. I just want to help him get to where he should be emotionally. Apparently he is very smart and a giant at 5'2" only being 10.

All I want is for this kid to know if I would of had the choice I would have been there for everything. I do not even know him and I know I love him.
