The best thing that you can do is remain friends with the step dad and slowly start a relationship with your son. By the time your son gets old enough to understand things then maybe you will have a good enough relationship to talk about things. Be prepared for all hell to break loose when the ex finds out you've been around your son.

Man, if I had the opportunity to see my child I would try every chance I could get. I only get to see one of my sons every other weekend and the only damn reason is because I am a man! Don't get in between the kid and the step dad. It seems the step dad is good for him and you shouldn't do anything to change their relationship. Don't be the kid's dad if he's already got a good one
