Godspeed on a healthy recovery. Hope you get back to normal soon. Heart health is a concern of mine for sure.

The exact words from one of my surgeons the day after when he was in my room to check on me...

"I can't belive you're here. You were dead".

Flatlining on the EKG is pretty much death. He was technically alive because his brain functions hadn't died, but his heart was stopped. Still a scary thing to overcome and it's odd of the OT to keep up grudges when something like this has happened.

Relax. He was close. Nothing wrong with reminding people bad shite happens.

Merry Christmas Darth.

It is a sign of respect to treat him like nothing has happened.

I do the same to PJ.

Honestly I wouldn't mind this. My life is damn near perfect to the outside eye but I'm so jaded- no real joy and no real grief- just the drudgery of life. But this life pays well and my family is doing well and that's what I said I wanted out of life.

I could go for something that would make me truly appreciate my life; I'll get a blip every now and then and try to start caring and then get dragged down by the drudgery...

But I am glad you are OK!

Like I said, he didn't die.

But I'm glad he's still around

Merry Xmas Darth

Well ? What the hell happened to you ?

I was one week past open heart surgery where they'd done a double bypass and installed an artificial mitral valve.

After my surgery I was on a battery of meds of course. One of the meds was to control my heart rate while another was to keep my blood thinned to prevent clots.

The problem though is those two meds interact with one another. The med that controls my heart rate also boosts the effects of the blood thinner (Warfrin). Long story short, these two meds combined to thin my blood out to the point it started leaking from my heart and into the membrane around my heart. As this progressed and the membrane became more and more full, the more pressure it placed on my heart making it harder to beat. It finally reached a point my heart could not beat at all. This is when I died.

The docs opened my chest back up and did an emergency surgery to open a "window" in the membrane to allow the blood and fluid to drain. This emergency surgery saved my life.
