Folks have been eating placentas for years. It even has its own term. I’ve had a few clients ask about whether this can help stop postpartum depression and it does not (old wives tale). It doesn’t replenish hormones at a level to affect PPD.

It’s just not a super uncommon practice for women. And there’s definitely been an uptick in it, especially with the “breast is best”’movement for breastfeeding because there’s a unsupported belief it improves breastfeeding. And the misinformation about what it can do for postpartum physical and mental health.

Yeah that sounds nasty but there are a lot of animal species that eat the placenta. Strictly speaking it is packed with nutrients.
