Probably a raccoon or a rally possum.
Do you think someone aiming to rob your house at a time when people are likely to be home and with two cars in the driveway would try to alert you beforehand?

obviously because your alarm went off.
The alarm went off after the started going crazy. I didn't even think raccoon before people mentioned it, but most likely it was this. My GSD rips those suckers up. Still doesn't really explain why she was on alert, though. Only happens when people come over. Has never done it for another dog or animal before.

My dad always used to tell me a story like this when I was first born. Someone broke the glass into the room where my crib was and he snuck up behind him with a bat. He hesitated at the last second because he didn't want to kill him and didn't hit him in the head. Guy freaked out and ran away.
I always told myself when I own my own home and have a family I will always have an alarm and weapon near my bed.

Bugs will do that to windows. I doubt anyone would tap repeatedly on a window, especially doubt they'd come back after all the commotion.

Or a flamethrower, can't miss with that

Shooting someone in the back is a prison term in LA, especially if they are just on your property.
TX is a different song and dance.

Whatever I rather take my chances with a 12 gauge at night trying to hit a barely visible target.
I mean they don't call them home defense shotguns for no reason dick licker.

It was Gary Chambers, he need a towel to dry off. All that sweat doesn't just go away.

Think the whole premise or point of tapping on a window would be to find out, one if there are any other dogs etc in the house. If you walk in an get chewn up that's a bad day. Secondly someone will likely react if they are home/alert and hear that. Better than getting shot by said person when entering.
You're going to make noise entering, tapping doesn't seem like it takes away anything from the overall situation.

In college I went over to a friends to have a study group. About 5 of us. A guys knocks on the door about 5pm asks for Steve. Said no Steve here and he looks around in the doorway. 1 hour later we here tons of cops. The guy apparently went door to door until he found a victim. Robbed some girls at gunpoint and tied them up. Closest I've ever been to being robbed

Assuming you are shooting across a normal sized room (say 15-20 ft) the spread might be a couple of inches at that distance, so you're not gaining much there. Any gained accuracy is due to the ability to shoulder a shotgun, but there are downsides to a shotgun as well, particularly in hallways and tight quarters.
A shotgun does have much better stopping power, but that doesn't have anything to do with "9/10 people not being able to hit anything in the dark."

I'm not sure. I guess because my shop was out there, and I wanted to make sure I didn't see anyone over there, but I honestly couldn't tell you. I had adrenaline pumping, so I guess that was my "come at me bro" moment. I'm no badass by ANY means, but I've never had a flight reaction.

OP already stated he went outside so everything you have typed after this is irrelevant.

What I said was 9 times out of 10 you wouldn't have much success hitting a perp in the dark outside. He might have to let off ten shots and to hit him once. Do you not understand tactics? Whereas a shotgun blast would be effective for a good 40 yards. The OP stated he lives on 3 acres.
