I'd buy one (as soon as my Jeep dies).

You talking about the people blowing the Genesis?

The Chrysler and Dodge crowd will soon jump in on this.

Now that is a ridiculous thing to say, unless you don't know that Honda has Acura, Toyota has Lexus, Nissan has Infinity, Ford has Lincoln, etc
You do realize you're making my point for me, don't you?

but Hyundai just isn't there yet. If they were, they wouldn't be resorting to a rebranding of an entire line.

I am pointing out to you that pretty much every car company in the world that is worth a hill of beans has re-branded one of their lines of cars. I think that Hyundai being able to re-brand an entire line shows that they have arrived and that they are THERE or will be soon enough.

It's shows they're trying to get away from their own reputation. Because theyre not where the other manufacturers are. There no guarantee it will work though.

No, hell NO is doesn't, it shows they are creating a luxury car line to go along with their existing line of moderately equipped and priced vehicles.
Did Ford have a bad reputation and have to start the Lincoln brand to distance themselves from their OLD brand? I would think that since Ford is still around the answer is a resounding NO.
How about GM, were they poorly thought of and have to start Cadillac to get away from the GM name?
Hyundai is one of the top two largest car manufacturers in Asia. Second only to Toyota. They are the fourth largest vehicle manufacturer in the world behind GM, Volkswagen Group and Toyota.
So saying they aren't there, again is ridiculous. They are bigger than Ford, Chrysler, Honda, Mercedes, etc, etc, etc. They are the fourth largest producer of automobiles in the WORLD !!! I think they will be okay if for some reason the new luxury car line doesn't work out.
Why are you so concerned about Hyundai/Kia and the new car line they are creating?

Is this what all other automakers did when they built their luxury line of cars? G.M. Ford, Toyota, Nissan, etc?

If you say so. Why rebrand if the Hyundai name is good enough? They seem to think it isn't, so why are you so adament that it is?

You seem way more concerned than me.

Did those manufactures try making a car significantly more expensive than their other models and pass it off as a competitor to the known luxury brands?

Yes. And it has been very successful for all of them.

My issue with Hyundai is that all of their cars just look liker cheaper knock offs from the bigger name brands to me. I can't tell you the amount of times a new model comes up and I pull up to it thinking its a honda, toyota, or lower end new release Mercedes and nope....its a Hyundai. The Genesis is no different to me, it looks generic...forgettable. I'll be honest I didnt even know about it but I've been in the same car for 10 years too.
My sister drives a Sonata and while its nice it still feels "cheaper" than the Hondas and Yotas I've been in. Price point wise it is.
I know their 10 year warranty is great, but I mean that's only 120,000 miles. I'd be pretty unhappy in a Honda or Toyota if I needed it with only that many miles too.

I'm taking about the parent company. Not the luxury brand.

This will be my fifth post in this thread. How many have you made??
Actually, you and the other naysayers are probably doing a better sales job for Hyundai/Kia then any of their sales reps could do. I didn't know crap about the cars before this thread. Reading the informed responses to you and the other no-way folks made me realize that there is definitely advantages to owning one of these vehicles over their competitors.
Luxury with all the options just like the other guys for $25k less.
Better warranty
Lower cost of ownership
When all considered - a better resale value
Thanks for your part in opening my eyes to all of these great benefits of the Hyundai car line.

WTF? Why has pretty much every car manufacture in the world come up with a new name for their luxury car lines? It's not like Hyundai is the first to do this.
Are you okay with all of the other car lines - Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda but think it is wrong for Hyundai to do it?
If you can't understand this one simple point that has been continually repeated throughout history with car manufacturers, then maybe you should drop this argument since it is going nowhere.

You've likey posted more words than me in this thread. How much stock do you have in Hyundai?
The difference is that those manufactures didn't just come out of nowhere and try to pass off a significantly more expensive car as direct competition for the established luxury brands. They did it under a different name from the get go. Hyundai tried that, and clearly they've decided it isn't working, hence the rebrand.
You're the one not understanding the argument. I get that other manufactures have made luxury brands. But they have not gone about it in the way Hyundai is doing with the Genesis line.

Neither did Hyundai. Look you may not accept it but Hyundai and Kia both make decent cheap cars now. Across the board these 2 brands are much better made than in the past. Korea has started making cars as well now. I forget the companies but they are progressing fast as well in their quality. It's a good car. End of story.

Hyundai doesn't sell a $60k car under the Hyundai badge? You sure about that?

Toyota, Nissan, GM and Ford all sell 60k vehicles.

I don't know why you think that's relevant to this discussion.
And at using the Land Cruiser, the GTR, and decked out full size trucks and SUVs to compare to the price of a car.
