It is perfectly reasonable to be uneducated on the quality of these vehicles and their position in their class, so I'll give you and others a pass, but they're a fine vehicle. It will take time before they have the panache of a BMW or Mercedes, but the quality and styling of the vehicle has been there for a few years now, particularly on the Genesis.

If that's what he puts up as the main points for comparing the luxury, that's on him. Surely there was something more compelling than sunroof, leather, and power seats to put in the summary.

Ok, my point is that he picks leather, sunroof and power seats to list. That's asinine.

Or perhaps they feel Hyundai has more to prove before they get compared to the established players in a segment. Just because Toyota pulled it off with Lexus does not mean that this move by Hyundai will be successful in the long run.

Or perhaps they don't think itll get the head turns a Benz or BMW will.

Hyundai is trying to rebrand this line of cars to capture this portion of the market, which was my point from the get go.

Maybe you're the idiot for thinking that's the only reason someone wouldn't buy a Hyundai.

And that takes time.

Won't buy and won't consider are two different things. I don't fault anyone for not buying a car. I think people who automatically write off certain cars based on brand alone are idiots.

And Hyundai has come a long way in the past 10 years both in terms of quality and reliability.

Sigh.

By and large, for the last few years, there is no tangible reason someone would purchase most competitors in the same class as a Genesis. I won't lose sleep over someone who can't pull the trigger "just because", and car buying doesn't have to be logical all the time, but if it was, the Genesis would be the leader in the segment.

Resale value for starters. Lack of tangible data on longevity is another. Driving dynamics is yet another.

Not a Genesis, or anything it competes with.

2015 Hyundai Genesis AWD vs 2015 BMW 328i AWD. According to Edmunds, Genesis experiences $250 more depreciation over 5 years despite $1000 difference in MSRP, saving you $750 in resale value.

Why is there no tangible data on longevity? These cars get overhauls and remakes all the time. Hyundai's reputation isn't as long as the others, but that reputation doesn't stop things like the BMW 7 series from being a disaster.

You'll have to give them both a chance to judge that.

I can link you same numbers too.
quote:

If you are a used car buyer, these are best to look at buying secondhand because they all take steep depreciation losses in the first year of ownership: Hyundai Genesis - after a year, it loses just under 40% of its value. So, for example, a $50,000 Genesis new would sell for roughly $30,000 when it's 1 year old!
LINK And why are you comparing the Genesis to a 3 series?

quote:

Why is there no tangible data on longevity?

Because they haven't been around all that long.

quote:

Hyundai's GOOD reputation isn't as long as the others

FIFY. Hyundai has a pretty long rep though.

No one has said the 7 series is reliable. Why do you keep changing models to compare the Genesis to though?

Road tests have said as much. It's all over the web.

No Thanks.

My parents had a Genesis. It was a piece of shite. Nice looking and good warranty, but there were so many serious problems with that car that they were afraid to take it anywhere. It had a knack for breaking down on busy highways.

I don't think it lasted 45,000 miles.
