With those choices, regardless of money, I'm taking New Orleans.

2500/mo schools conservative estimate

Good lawd almighty...

2500 x 12 = 30k !!!!

And that's a conservative amount????

Lmao is there any way to negotiate a move to Texas?

Avg prop tax is like 7600 and public schools top notch!

Some of yall really pay that much back at home for private schools???

The answer between those 4 is New Orleans. How is this a question.

Cost of living is higher in New Orleans and he'll be forking out a fortune to put them in decent private schools.

If he were single with no kids NOLA would be ideal

Yep. Either that or spend 2 hrs in traffic every day. I wouldn't send my 10 yr old daughter to a BR public school

I pay more than that to send a kid to daycare. It's totally doable on a 200k salary. Does it suck to know that if you didn't have to pay for that you could blow a lot more money on random fun stuff? Absolutely. But it can be done. We make a little less, spend money like idiots lately, send 1 kid to daycare at well over 10k a year, and have enough left over easily to send another. If we had to send 3, we could find a way easily.

We pay 10.5k for tuition, about 2k for aftercare during the school year and about another 2k for summer camp. It's around 14.5k total.

We could find a cheaper school if we had to. We make slightly under 175k. Just the one kid.

Laughing my arse off at all these "BigTyme OT Baller" types that cannot live a decent lifestyle on $16,667 dollars per month

Start doing the math. Tuition, mortgage, taxes, cars, food, clothing, extracurriculars, and so on...

It adds up a lot quicker than you'd think.

The only argument that's been made against it being too expensive is to live outside of NOLA and commute in. But that wasn't the original question posited by the OP. To live in NOLA with 3 kids is going to be a whole hell of a lot.

I'm on your side in terms of being able to live a decent lifestyle on that salary. Seeing as I know quite a few people from NOLA and not a single one was sent to public school. And plenty of them came from families making less than 200k.

But.....you have no concept of money if you think 200k salary actually means you get 16,667 bucks. My take home pay is roughly half of my salary due to taxes, insurance, etc.. When you start making good money, the government likes to take it away.

Haha, that's the same as Orleans and JP isn't far behind. Has anyone mentioned how ridiculous property taxes are in Orleans. It's doable, but 200k isn't balling in New Orleans. A 2000 sq foot house in lakeview on a 50x120 foot lot with 6 grand in property taxes is what you'll be able to afford.

I'd take the NOLA job and buy a house on the north shore or in Jefferson.

Baton Rouge sucks, but it is a lot better than those other shitholes.

200k, family of 5, your doing peachy in BR, better if the wife works as well.. Get you a $250 -$300k house in one of many quality neighborhoods. Don't go over your means because, you should plan on paying for school. 3 kids, your looking at $15k - $50k a year for private school. Unless you want to live in Prairieville. Good not great schools, but free.
