200k is taking home around $10k a month.

3000/mo absolute minimum housing
2500/mo schools conservative estimate
1000/mo groceries
Cars?
Extracurriculars for kids
Other bills?
Savings?

Are you assuming $10k a month after taxes? Because if not you’re terrible at math.

You left out clothes for the kids and wife. Kids are damn expensive to clothe (especially if they do athletics) unless you want them looking like Oliver Twist.

I would never have a 3k mortgage with a 200k family income and that’s without kids.

That’s correct so I would probably live on the North Shore.

He’s pretty damn close with 10k a month take home for 200k a year income. Now it can change with 401k contribution and number of dependents.

Baton Rouge. Regardless of what this site thinks, BR is not a bad place to have a family. Shreveport and Alexandria are boring and NOLA is too unstable.

If you max your 401k and make 200k a year you will have $10k after tax take home pay a month.

He’s going to be losing $750-1200 a month on health insurance for 5 people

Take the Job in NOLA and live on the Northshore(Mandeville) so your kids can go to a decent public school system while having a solid police force. Then commute for your family.

It is New Orleans on literally any other forum or to any other group of people other than the ones you are polling on the OT, and I do not believe it would be close.

I agree. That’s why I said he’s pretty damn close. Like 10,000 vs 11,000 depending on 401k contribution and dependents.

Some company’s cap your 401k contribution at 6% if you are a highly compensated employee.
