LOL at the revisionist bullshite. Andrew was a motherfricker at that time. My personal worst experience outside Katrina.

That's on your dumb arse for not getting out beforehand. I say that as someone that had a hand in setting hundreds of ghetto boxes down there post-Katrina.

If BR counts, then I estimate my major count as 20+.

So between Katrina and Rita, you moved from New Orleans to Holly Beach?

So, go tell that to people who lost belongings. These weren't minor storms, jackass.

They were not major storms regardless of the damage that they caused.

You’re just pissed because you got called out on your bullshite post.

It’s amazing to me how much people want to be pitied.

You’re not attacking the OP for her BS as much as y’all are for wanting to be pitied.

It’s weird.

What we are seeing 2.5 weeks later is surreal.

You should see what communities from Grand Isle, Lafourche Parish all the way to Lake Charles are still dealing with 1-2.5 years later after 3 major hurricanes.

Consider yourself lucky

Katrina was Aug 29, 2005, Rita was Sept 24, 2005

I was in BR for both, but my actual residence was in St Bernard Parish we had 12-15 feet of water for Katrina, and were given permission to go back in mid Sept to start clean up, but Rita pushed another 6 feet of water into the house
my in-laws down the bayou had 3 feet of water for Rita, house shifted off the piers and roof damage for Ida

Technically, Gustav and Ida were worse in BR but that’s just bc of tree damage and loss of electricity - I don’t even remember Isaac.

The damage in Florida is terrible, and I’m very sorry about it. But luckily Florida is a place where things will be nice again - even if it takes some time.

Baw, my little brother was delivered by a NG medic in the back of a deuce and a half in Andrew. Two months with no power and was armed century during Katrina. Took two 2 solid days of tractor and chainsaw work to cut to the main road.

Stayed for every storm in between and since. This shite seen on the MS coast and south plaq after Katrina and south of Houma last year was interesting. It is impressive what wind will do to 2"+ thick structural members.

Aboot 20 minutes from you. She took an arse whoopin' in Irma. The Gubmint has improved the drainage since they realized there was a problem. BR could take lessons from them.

Since 2002, the biggest storms with the biggest issues were storms with a large storm surge, except for Ida which was pretty much a wind event. By the time Ida rolled around, the bayou areas finally built enough levees and water control structures to minimize flooding from storms inside those major systems that have been constructed or beefed up since Katrina and Rita.

For Rita you had almost 10,000 homes flooded in Terrebonne Parish for a storm that went to Cameron with just about an 8 foot storm surge. By 2019, for Hurricane Bill that had 9 foot storm surge, just a hand full of homes flooded. That showed how much has been done and can be done with proper flood control projects.

Looking at the devastation in Florida for Ian, there are similarities, but you cannot draw correlations because the land and elevation are different. In Florida, you have houses built right on the beach flat to the ground, and canals open to the Gulf of Mexico. The sad part is that some in those Canal areas near Ft. Meyers were not in flood zones and some may not have purchased flood insurance.
