HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Emergency responders in Huntington saw a wave of overdoses in a short time span Monday afternoon and evening.

Cabell County 911 in West Virginia says they had 26 overdoses reported within 4 hours, beginning at about 3:30 p.m.

In August of last year, they say they responded to 39 overdose calls the entire month.

"We had a half-hour span where we had absolutely no trucks to send in the county," Cabell County EMS assistant supervisor David McClure told our sister station WSAZ.

In one call, five people overdosed in the same house. Most of the people admitted taking heroin. Now the investigation will focus on whether the drugs come from the same batch.

"If you do pick up anything today, be careful, don't use it," McClure said. "Today definitely does seem to be worse than usual. I don't know why, but it's not a normal batch."

Saw a guy in NOLA OD in the middle of the street Saturday. Dude was dead, EMT's showed up, gave CPR and a shot and voila! Back to life, looking for the next hit.

I thought fentanyl was harder to get than heroin. Why would they use it to cut?

I wonder how many junkies are on their way to Huntington now that this story broke?

It's much much cheaper on the streets because it takes such a small amount of powder to completely frick someone up. And it's very addicting.

Most users think they like it because of how fricked up they get on it. I never understood it. It reminds me of the people that get black out drunk and talk about how fricking awesome of a time they had when you know they can't even remember it. But the shite sells for some reason.

I agree you get loaded on it but it is not even close to the euphoric feeling that real true pure heroin will give you. And you are probably 100 times less likely to actually OD on heroin on accident (made up figure by me obviously from my humble experience)

Really pisses me off when I give narcan and they get pissed when you kill their buzz. Once they leave after almost dying they shoot up again.

That's just crazy.... i mean are they awake when you give it to them?

I mean if they arent really in need of it at the time, its kinda fricked up ruining their semi-expensive buzz

Our government has had every opportunity to eradicate the opium poppy. They choose not to.

Clearly our government is willing to accept these ridiculous health issues.

I heard a junkie say that when news of a rash of ODs hits, the users all want to know where that good shite is coming from. She admitted it was insane, but that's how it is.

I feel sorry for all those people. Certainly they are in that position by their own actions, but they are people's sons, daughters, brothers, sisters. Good people have drug issues and it can be really sad.

Saw a special on TV recently about heroin use there. They cut it with fentanyl and that's what causes the bodies to drop.

The dealer they were interviewing said when someone ODs on his shite that his phone starts blowing up with people wanting some because it dropped a body (must be fire).

Then they interviewed the guy over the Drug Task Force and ask him why they cut the heroin with fentanyl since fentanyl isn't a cheap substance like dealers normally cut their product with. He said, and I'm paraphrasing, it's not so much that they are cutting the heroin with fentanyl as much as they are cutting fentanyl with heroin at this point.

Edit. Looks like I should have read the thread as most of this had been covered.

Agree with SS, Fentanyl sucks. When using it 3 things can happen and two of them aren't good.
