re: How much weight do you expect to lose per month?

I lost 12 in two weeks starting out on a diet. Went from 192 to 180 by just eating, no working out. I had a bunch of shite go on then, and ended up not following it at all. I have somewhat been following it lately, and am posted up around 183 now.
If I was exercising, I wouldn't expect it to move that quickly because I gain muscle really quickly.
It really all depends on how fat you are though. My metabolism is pretty fast, so that helped me
Eta: That wasn't water weight, and I ate 3500-4000 calories instead of 5-6000

At my physical prime and I was overweight, I'd lose a pound a day. I lost 80 pounds one summer when I was 18 and I was in good shape by the end of it. But I was working out every day. Also, running is not the best for weight loss. It's great for cardio, but weight lifting will burn many many more calories than you will running.
Also, stick to protein and not much else.

Not doing any running so far.
30 mins on the treadmill inclined at 3-4mph
30mins on the bike
Then free weights for chest and bicep curls.
Machine for deltoids

I'm 5'11 and weighed 195. I increased my running from 3-4 miles a week to 10-12 miles a week, and cut back on some of the junk food. I lost 13 pounds in just under 4 weeks.

Depends on how you do it. I was 317 in mid March, I'm 258 now, and I have been on a plateau for almost 3 months. I've only lost 10 lbs since mid June-ish.
If you want to lose it FAST I advise low carb. Less than 20 carbs per day, and 1500 calories. It puts your body into ketosis. Which is a bodily process that actually eats fat, the amount of calories you eat determines the speed at which you will lose the weight. I haven't been doing it, but if I had I would be around 230 right now.

It's not hard to put on 30lbs of rip during the summer, if you work hard.

You always see numbers like this in the beginning. It'll slow down as you lose. Start doing squats (Not leg press), they will burn off a lot of belly fat.

My little bro (younger, but not "little") has lost about 95 pounds in about a year now. He was ~285 and is down to ~190 (6'). He didn't do anything crazy, just cut out junk, had a lot more portion control, and started easy into exercise (long walks, longer walks, bike riding, then running).
That is about 3.5 pounds a week, but it was fast at first and slowed down. 3 pounds a week doesn't sound like a ton, but if it is a lifestyle change, it will pay huge dividends in the end.
Keep it up!

So you are not working your legs or back?

Cut down 80-90% on sugar, pasta, and white rice, and you will see the pounds come off. I lost and kept off 20 lbs doing just this (and lifting weights but no cardio).

People do not realize how little exercise effects weight loss.

Just back exercise like lat pull downs and a set of cable rows
No fast food, white bread, pasta, potatoes, soda, candy, snacks or anything else that may be high in fat or sugars.
I'm an obsessive nutrition label reader now.

Why arent you working the lower half of your body?
Posted on 9/2/15 at 11:10 am to NatalbanyTigerFan
Somewhere between 5-10 pounds if you're not gaining any muscle

Because I've always had freakishly muscular calves and hamstrings.
Like, strangers ask me about my calves sometimes ...not so humble brag

I've always read this, and even studied the physiology theory.
My body packs on lbs with only weight training. I must run or cycle in order to drop weight.
Therefore it's easy to see that there are no black and white rules because we all have different metabolic rates and genetic factors at play.
