This thread is helping convince me that one kid is enough.

but it will be a state supported school. I worked hard enough to get an academic scholly, hopefully my kids will do the same
My one in college got highest TOPS, others should follow. Even with TOPS paying the tuition and a small stipend after you add books, apartment, bills, fees, etc etc etc is still a lot.

PS - TOPS might account for about 1/3 of the overall expense if I had to guess.

I don't dislike my job, was more interested in what people thought it would take for them to not NEED to work.

I just think kids should put themselves through college. My parents took care of me while at LSU, but now I'm on my own working full time while a full time student.

Makes me value it more and regret taking my parents money.

Id like to be able to invest enough that i make 100k a year on interest and still work a job I enjoy that I dont have to be concerned about how much they pay me

I feel that way but the wife doesn't. Kids are insanely expensive. I think in general women and children are the most expensive investments you can make in terms of long term purchases. Getting married is just a life long bet for half your shite that you can put up with this woman forever.

There is no number for me - I will always spend just a little more than I have. I have 30K in credit card debt and no savings account.

85% of Americans including governments operate like this. (Not knocking you just saying..paying interest the American way).

I would be living like a king if I had no bills and didn't have to pay $900 a month daycare

5MM, but I would probably still work in some capacity(build spec homes, flip houses.) My hobbies are too expensive to do all the time. Otherwise, I would sit at home and become a fatass.

30 million

1. Invest 10 million
2. Buy private island with 10 million
3. Blow 10 million on hookers and coke
4. Profit

$1M probably/ Would I be more comfortable with more? Sure, but I could easily live on ~$50K/year. As long as I'm making that 5% and only spending the interest each year, I am getting $50K, plus have a million $$ in the bank.

Why?

If you quit your job and your only focus was investing your money at the highest return you should be able to get more than double that.

You should be a stay at home dad and let your wife worry about making money. You sounds like a giant pussy and I weep for the future. Get $2large in the bank and...retire? That's just enough to really have some resources and then make some serious coin! You don't retire at 30. Wtf!

What the frick are you blathering about?

this is a hypothetical thread on an anonymous message board....I weep for our old people.

What if you want your life's purpose to be seeing everything in the world that you can experience instead of working? Wouldn't that also give you a purpose?
