when i worked as a mover we usually got $20 each, unless it was a two truck job, then we got $100 each.

That was in Plano moving folks between mansions so they didnt worry about the cash like i do.

About as much as you tip your Wal-Mart cashier.....

This is becoming ridiculous.

How much do you tip your accountant? Or your dentist? How about the checkout lady at Macys?

I'm not a cheapskate by any means, but this is getting ridiculous.

While on the subject of tipping movers, If you already know you are going to tip, why not tip BEFORE they move your shite? I feel like if they know you're a nice guy then they might make an extra effort to be more careful.

Granted if you plan on tipping shitty or not tipping at all then I could see the wisdom of not tipping before.

I tipped $60 each the only time we've ever used movers. But it took them a day and a half to pack our house, then moved it 6 hours away. Also, company paid for the actual movers. So only the tip came out of my pocket.

Problem was they did a horrible job, but didn't find that out until we were unpacking boxes. Wouldn't have tipped shite if I had known that.

My brother does move jobs on weekends/after work hours for extra money and while he does get tips sometimes, I don't think he expects it.

I don't know if it is because this company is owned by a good friend of his and it is just them two with a couple helpers, or if all movers get paid well, but he comes home with a very decent payout after every job.

I do most of the prep myself (clothes, food items, etc). They move the large items. $20 per mover.

This tipping thing is out of hand. I've never even thought of tipping movers, hotel maids, or any of the other jobs that the OT tips on the regular.

In my experience, laborers tend to give less of a shite once money is in hand. If you're going to go this route, the trick is to drop hints about your tip before hand. Incentives should do the trick.

Of course, if it were me and I paid hundreds of dollars for a move and they broke a lot of my shite, those hundreds of dollars would be quickly disputed on the card.

If you hire a moving company, tip $10 per guy in cash and give them a water/Gatorade.
Now for guys who are bringing furniture or appliances you bought at the store, no need to tip them. They get a good wage from the store.

I am good friends with the owner of the moving company we used and he suggested that tipping the movers 10% of the total cost of the move to split among themselves is the equivalent of tipping a waiter 20%, and to adjust accordingly based off the service. We also provided breakfast, lunch, and drinks as we were eating/drinking throughout the day.

Are you supposed to tip movers? Don't you already pay them well for their service?

You don't have to tip anyone. But it's nice and shows appreciation.

My movers didn't break anything or put holes in the sheetrock... They moved 4 bedrooms upstairs and down stairs furniture... I tipped them 25 apiece, pizza and beer for lunch....

That's fair, but they should also appreciate you choosing their business.

Their service is moving your house and that is what they charge you for. IMO they aren't doing anything extra or special that deserves a tip.

Last time I moved I bought them each a huge gateraid and some snacks from a gas station. Plus $10 each.
