You do realize they chose to go into that profession, right? While you are at it, why dont you subsidize a few fast food workers salaries?

His employer quoted 4 hours for the job and sending 4 workers. He only sent the two of them and told me he couldn't spare anyone else. So frick that guy.

I don't get some of the posters on OT.

I seen posts about tipping movers, charter boat crew, dental assistants, etc.

But, last week there was a thread about people bitching that they would never tip a Uber driver a couple of bucks.

I don't get it.

I don't tip them or any other industry outside of the food service industry.

They'll still get paid, something will be broken, and you'll get to deal with the insurance company. Your furnishings won't be delivered until the moving company is paid, and you won't notice anything is broken until it's delivered.

I was a mover for a little while. Hard work and you have to take good care of peoples' stuff but work fast enough to save them money. Here was the tip scale per mover for customers:

$0-Broke arse
$10-25-standard tip, usually nice person
$25-50 upper class
>$50-OT baller

I generally tip $20 - $40 apiece depending on my perception of the quality of work. those guys can really affect how your shite survives the trip and if I think they went out of their way, I don't mind giving them a little something....

also generally buy lunch for them.

This. When we had a company paid move from Houston to Denver a few years ago I didn't know to tip the movers. We had our China and some other shite disappear. It took us a while to finally go through everything so by the time we realized it was missing it was too late to file a claim.

I will admit that I have never used a moving service, but they require full payment up front? And people are dumb enough to do that shite?

Welders make a lot more than movers. Other professions make more too. I don't understand today's phenomenon with calling everything a profession. Some jobs are just BS jobs, hence where tipping probably came about in the first place. There are threads on here about which watch to buy for 5-6k...ffs...if you can afford to pay someone to move your stuff or have a job that will pay for it, you can afford a little tip.

I used a moving company when I moved from The Woodlands back to BR, paid in full when they were finished

Sad thing is that owners purposely pay these worker lower wages factoring in that the workers' will make tips. So when they don't get tipped, it hurts them.

Not saying it's right, but it's how the owners do it. That's why the worker was offering to take an hour off in return for a tip. I don't think it's right, but I guess I understand why they do it.

Cause I don't see a welder or cook or...

Exactly. I'm actually moving this weekend. I have 4 guys for 4 hours. I plan on buying them lunch and will let them know if they finish within the allotted time and possessions intact--they will get the money I would have paid to the moving company for an extra hour.

I just don't understand the argument of "they don't make much money". You see a doctor and you don't tip him. The nurse who sees you in and takes your vitals makes a hell of a lot less but, but they don't get tipped. Is there some kind of wage cutoff for tips? Every single person taking a job knew what pay they were going in for, so why is it acceptable to tip one type of worker but not another with similar pay?
