Same. I also have great recall and can imagine the way something would look but I do not have a visual picture of it in my mind. I often remember what someone said word for word years later and I’ll never forget a conversation we had. I might not recognize your face, though. Horrible face recall until I’ve met you a couple times.

I consciously know things have happened but I have no visualization of it in my mind. I do have a very hard time with facial recognition of people I don't know for a very long time or see super often.

I think everyone can do the same thing, but they have different perceptions or definitions of what they see.

Wait. Do people actually visualize images in their mind? If so, I have no idea what’s that like.

Can you picture memories in your mind?

The mind’s eye is a wonderful and powerful thing. If you have a vivid imagination it is almost as good as real memories. That is why some people can lie so easily; they can’t see the difference.

Also it’s why politicians say if you keep telling a lie enough, people believe you because they visualize your lie and soon can’t tell the difference.

I once spoke to a minister who was blind from birth and he said he dreams in sounds and touch. He dreams of his wife by her feel. He also is a huge LSU fan and loved to attend football games because of the contagion of the crowd. The excitement. As for the game itself, he said has his own version of football in his mind. Wow.

So you wouldn't be able to heed coach klein's instructions?

this is a great example.... another good example would be if I'm recalling a conversation i had with someone, i not only remember what we discussed - often I can tell you where we were, what activity we were doing, the time of day, what we were wearing, etc.. seems strange to me that people don't visualize or "see" things in their heads.

Not visually in the literal sense, no.

My mind can recount the image, but like actually seeing the image, no. The OP doesn't even make sense to me saying he can't see a red star but can see the idea of a red star. Who tf can actually and literally see a red star "in their mind?"

I learn best by watching someone else do it first, and usually only need to see them do it once. If a coach just gave me verbal instructions, I'd have a harder time.

Like, close my eyes and actually see them? No. But I can remember extreme levels of detail.

When I was 10, we were on a family vacation in Florida. We were playing truth or dare by the pool one night and my step brother had to do some stupid dance on the diving board while singing a song. A guy walked through while my brother was doing this, walked up to him and punched him in the face. He then walked up to our table, stared at us without saying anything and walked away.

He has very light, blond curly hair and eyes the palest shade of blue I’ve ever seen. I remember exactly what he looked like, what he was wearing and can *almost* close my eyes and see his eyes bc the memory is so vivid in my mind. But I can’t actually see them. I could provide enough detail for a sketch artist to do a detailed drawing though after all these years.

I can do all of that but I don’t see a picture. I have excellent detail memory but I cannot see an image in my mind.

Weird that you can remember the detail but can't see the image. I can essentially just see the images that I've seen before. Now, it's obviously not as clear as if I was looking at it in front of me, but I can see the images, though sometimes they are fleeting.

ETA: it's essentially as clear as it would be in a dream
