how many days a week do you have to drink to be considered an alcoholic?

Wasn't this exact question a thread three days ago?

We have this thread every week it seems like. And nobody can come up with the answer. If you have 1-3 drinks everyday I wouldn't consider that alcoholic.

But if you're having to drunk in order to sleep, I'd say you're an alcoholic. Same with if you wake up with the shakes cause you haven't had a drink in x amount of hours.

I only drink twice a week, but I usually black out and end up in the parish jail.

I've been told that you're not an alcoholic until you start getting drunk alone.

When we were young and dumb we decided/joked that if we drank more days out of the week than we didn't then we were alcoholics.

Of course that's before social media, before hashtags, and when you could drink a cold beer and ride dirt roads on the way to the lake lot and back. And if you drank too many you just got the key that was under the potted plant by the door to your folks' lake house/trailer/cabin and spent the night there.
