I'm taking my time with this, but i think i'll buy one sometime in 2015. I know I want an ideal or better cut, E-D color and VVS1-FL clarity.

I looked at 1 carat and thought it was puny as shite. Is it crazy to drop 12-15k on a 1.5-1.75 carat diamond?

It's crazy to spend that much on a 1.5-1.75 carat, diamond, yes.

You should spend six years' salary on her ring.

Any less, that means you don't love her.

If you have plenty money to blow go for it. If you don't just spend in you're ideal price range. If you're ideal price range is less than $1000 then you're not financially ready to get married.

1 carat. I dropped 2k on the ring and 15k on a kickass honeymoon that we enjoyed the hell out of.

But I'm not a sucker with a materialistic superficial bitch for a wife so do your thing, sir.

My wife has 2 total carats worth of diamonds in her entire set and it is apraised for about 3500. We paid a little less though.

Cut of diamond can cause a ring to look bigger or smaller.

Oval tend to look larger for the same carat.

Diamonds are an artificially inflated market but I know you can't explain that rationally to women. Couple that with divorce rates and it just seems like a horrible investment.

Quarter caret. I was broke as hell back then. She's never complained.

eta- she wanted a platinum setting though, so I still dropped 2 grand on it.

How much do you want her to get for it in a pawn shop 3 years from now? If you love her, you'll say at least 2k

If you're getting a quality diamond in the 1.5-1.75 size it's going to set you back a good bit. If you're making a ton of money I don't think 12-15k is absolutely crazy.

I used Southern Jewelers on Johnston, they get their diamonds directly from Stuller and gave me a good price.

1.23 ct center, plus another carat of surrounding stones in the "crown"

It's gonna be hard for you to find a top quality diamond at the size you want for the price you want. I bought from Guzzardo's in Hammond -- he knows his shite.
